***ArmA 3 Thread***

I've never played any of the ArmA games but after watching some videos about the game I'm keen to give it a go. However, I'm really unsure as to whether I should take advantage of the current steam deal for the ArmA 2 complete collection or do I jump straight to ArmA 3?

Is the ArmA 2 community still alive and well?

Are the following specs good enough for ArmA 3, i7920, ati 7850, 6gb ddr3?

Just upgraded my gpu, but ran arma 3 on a i7 920, ati 6970, 6 gig ram fine. So you should be good. Arma games love CPU. I hope your running the i7 overclocked?

Not overclocked I'm afraid as I'm a wimp when it comes to trying that stuff, worries me that I will fry something!

I got my new GTX 670 yesterday and fired up Arma 3 - wOw!!!

With my GTX 460 I think the autodetect settings had me at "medium" but with the 670 in there it seems to have bumped pretty much everything to "ultra"!!!

The FPS was showing as 30 until I disabled "SSAO" and it jumped to 60 straight away in the menu! - is this right??

Also, at the moment my 2500K is not overclocked but as far as I can see the game really isn't suffering for it - can I expect any great benefit from overclocking?

I've always disabled SSAO, after testing all the settings and their effects, i found SSAO does nothing really to improve the IQ (as far as i can see) but brings with it a 15-30fps hit.

I seem to be CPU limited on the game now, for the most part my fps are over a 100, i just wish my GPU usage wasn't all over the place.

anyone want to add me on steam looking for some friends to play arma 3 with love it online i only play annex invade but want to get into others

Missions wise or zombie wise?

Mission wise to many to list but zombie wise you have Dead Nation and Breaking Point. Epoch and 2017 are incoming

I downloaded breaking point for this last night so im looking forward to giving it a go. I have not heard much about Dead Nation though, it any good?

It is pretty much the same tbh but less active, has its own launcher so worth a go as it is easy to setup. The trouble with Arma 3 is Altis map is just massive and finding other players even on a 60 player full server can be a struggle. But with all the a2 maps ported and Epoch on route, well I can't wait. Although with Altis the towns are big and as far as I know you can enter every building, you will also find lots of buildings out in the sticks so to speak. Loot respawns as well ;)

Ah cool, I didn't know epoch was getting ported, is there a ETA on it?

Which mods use the A2 maps now? Origins?

Dave Beast who runs MGT spoke to the guy who makes Epoch and they reckon June ish time. I think he posted it in the A2 DayZ thread. It was only announced last month and as BI will not allow DayZ code to be ported from A2 (protect SA) they have to redo most of it from scratch. BI seem to forget the modders who carried on to make Epoch/Origins still selling the game for them it seems. Breaking point should keep you going though, I am not a fanboy like some though so let us know what you think.

I will let you know mate, the size of Altis is rather large so I can imagine the interaction with other players will be few and far between which will be a shame :(
