Most para out of training run the 1.5 in around 7 minutes
Most para out of training run the 1.5 in around 7 minutes
Most para out of training run the 1.5 in around 7 minutes
Who says not in boots? Yes it was on a track but it was in boots. He hadnt done the warm up 1.5 mile as he ran it for giggles, he was passing in his boots hence the boots.
For a start you need to be doing the run in at least 9:00, most people manage sub 9, the best are about 7:00 or just below. The para guys do 6:30 in boots :O
Im currently in week 15 of Para training in catterick, and my last BPFA was on week 12...
1.5 miles - 8:23
Pushups - 86
Situps - 83
Nonsense.
Go on Arrse and tell the paras and other squaddies they are talking nonsense and see how you get on mate lol
Road running being the sole cause of joint damage is unfounded as far as I am aware.
Not true. Each person is differently suited to it but one can attribute damage to road running specifically. It is proven to be heavy on joints.
It's common sense if you think about it.
Person A might do 10 miles a day every day and never have a problem but I know people who've never had knee problems that have had operations after upping their road running quota. The doctors and specialists have directly cited the road running as a cause regardless of running style or age.
Okay well guys i regularly see the Para's do the run.
Wheres that then as the test only has to be done twice a year.
Nearly all of them are sub 7, all of them are sub 7:30 and their best are 6:30 ish whilst many of them are carrying decent muscle bulk.
I would love to no the Regiment if all of them are sub 7:30 they cant have many seniors and just a load of troopers
They run every morning at work and many do very hard circuits and weights.
The Army does not allow running every day as organised PT as its bad for the body, bad for moral and a poor way to train.
So its nowhere near an over exagerration and they run in boots. I think many of you do not understand the dedication, fitness and strength of the modern infanty such as the para's or marines. Read Chris Ryan's book on his SAS pre-selection training and you will understand - it was basically a triathlon most days.
I think you should stop reading books
Well Zefan and firstborn i have seen it with my own eyes and also your wrong thinking to get near an olympic athelete by lets see.......
5:45 = WR = 345 secs
45/345 = 13%
Having seen them with my own eyes it wasnt that unreasonable. I also run with them (Really with a fully qualified PTI, i think not) and have seen many 'normal' air force and navy guys who keep good cardio fitness do around 7 mins and a bit. The para's run 5 days a week iirc 8 miles per day or there abouts. (Theres no way anybody can sustain running 8 miles a day for 5 days)
Many of them are not that heavy as they are wiry and not all huge despite the image of that. ( Infact most Paras are after being in the Army for a good few years they fill out, far from fat but no longer the whipits they were) SAS guys come from the para's and can run similar times.
Any one in the Army can apply to go on selection not just Paras.
So its not rubbish, its just dedicated training, its good athletes and yes they can also 'yomp' with packs. If you like i will ask some marines at work to post pictures, but i cant be remotely bothered as its obvious it shouldnt be necessary.
dsb et al,
fine. Are you saying that from your experience you have NEVER met an exceptional athelete in the para's, marines or 'selection' who cannot do these times i have said? i mention a remarkable time i saw, i remember that was in boots, thats all.
