Well I give up now for a Xmas build, will have to wait til New Year now i imagine, wish I knew the 5970 would not turn up, was hopeful with the pre-orders and OC predicting I would receive by now, got Ausu Rampage 2 extreme, i7 920, 128mb SSD, Corsair H50, Antec 1200, all held up by the 5970 :(

Will be a very nice rig.

You planning to Oc a little ?

now i was thinking of buying one of these cards from overclockers and my brother has(5870) , but it has not arrived. I have been doing some seaching athe 5870 at a lot of other stores is only £280-£299 which is £30 cheaper than overclockers. Was just wondering if this was a pricing error on overclockers part as they are usually the cheapest for new hardware.

Is it because of the demand?
Pricing error?
or are the other stores pricing it lower than they should?

Overclockers have put the price up because supply is so low.

The sites that have them for 290-300 don't have any in stock, and probably wont have until mid-late Jan at best.

If you buy one from OCUK you'll probably lose £30-40 in the first month - depending on your viewpoint that's either a con (and reacting to supply and demand is such an irrational way to behave, dude!) or a premium worth paying to actually get your hands on one of the bloody things :)

Either way, there are currently 4 in stock, and if you don't order today that's probably it for xmas...

+1

On top of getting your hands on these bad boys before Xmas, you are also paying for OcUK's service, which I've always find to be right up there. I've had very little issues with my purchases and on the odd occasions when I did, it was promptly ressolved.

Pakjai. what are your 5850's like crossfired, considering changing my order tomorrow from 5970, thats if stock is still available on the 10+ VTX3D there are at the moment?

They run very fast and cool. I can't hear them on top of my case fans.
I runs games with settings maxed out no problem at all.

I game on 1900x1200 resolution :)

Thanks for that, i currently res at 1650*1080 but may upgrade in a couple of months, building my system to last a good few years, my current E6700 dual core 8800GTX is still playing games fine and has lasted 3 years.
The only problem with changing to 5850's is that i may want to crossfire the 5970 as a boost in 18 months or so, looking for 4 years on this rig hopefully

5970 is a great card, but I gave up on the idea of quad firing them as they do run pretty hot especially when you overclock and have them lined up next to eachother.

One is definitely overkill for the resolution that you play on, I would suggest you to buy a new monitor to do it some justice. :)

Overkill yes, but it has to go the distance in terms of years so i expect that in 2 years or so i can put another one in if needed to boost it, i will be getting a new monitor at some point and i may just go for another 2 1680*1050 and go for eyefinity, it looks so good. The 2 5850's would cause a problem should i decide i need some more graphics power as i would need to sell both and get 2 5970's, so long term i think it may be best to wait for the 5970 ( i was told this evening by OC on the phone that i am number 1 in queue for powercolor 5970)

If everything holds up with the weather we should be getting a large XFX delivery tomorrow and an even bigger Sapphire and powercolor delivery in between Xmas and new year. The only problem is prices may be going up with the poor $ rate.

It depends on how you look at it really.

Having 2x5850 will still allow you to run eyefinity without any problems at all, especially if you are combining 3 low resolution monitors together. By the time you have to sell those 5850's better cards would be available to you and 5970 will no longer be a worthwhile upgrade option.

The key things here are your budget or how much you are willing to spend. One 5970 will cost more than buying 2 x 5850's. Besides there are no games out there that either of these options cannot handle right now.

It's all down to your own personal preference, so your money your choice ;)

In that case Fatboy grateful if you can confirm you still have visibility of the Asus 5970 I ordered on 7th Dec, backordered to 3509235(OC935854), and the price will remain as of time of order. Im happy to wait until this card arrives, no big deal.

Thanks for the great customer service by the way Fatboy - ease of use of online store, the great forum etc is why I buy a lot from OcUK, Merry Xmas to all you hard working guys and girls at the store. :)

Thanks for the advice Pakjai, I will see what happens tomorrow with delivery, i can't build now until next week due to Xmas and family staying, i think i might hold out until then, hopefully as Fatboys states there will be some availability for the 5970.

every digit crossed! <3 to the Fatboy updates!

5870 arrived yesterday fatboy, true to your word :) 1 happy father in law :)

the delivery guy was amazing, 500 yards out of our estate as were snowed in, he walked round with the deliveries haha!

cheers bud!

my 8800gt is about to blow up, so i decided 2 give myself a nice little xmas present in the form of XFX ATI HD 5870. Alas, i probably shouldnt call it a christmas present, as from the sounds of things i wont be getting mine till feb :( which sucks, badly.. i cant game :'(..
i 'pre-ordered' it on sunday (bad time i know) which has made me realize that i could be something like 20982 in the queue (ok, 869 if im lucky) due to the high demand. and read above about getting 5 of each card at a time.. not looking good is it? surely there's guaranteed to be hundreds of pre-orders for that card, so if im near the end, maybe it could take 4 maybe 5 months for that dam thing.. i really really am regretting my order now, as disappointment has totally destroyed ANY excitement i had building up.. is it really worth waiting months for that card??

i doubt there are many more than say 100 pre orders on that specific card, and they are getting a large delivery of XFX cards today (all being well) and you may have it by tomorrow possibly
