AS/A Levels

How'd people find C1?

Horrible, doubt i passed. Definitely didn't get a decent grade.

The paper itself did seem a lot harder than the others i've done, but that might just be the fact that i didn't have the internet/the ability to talk to myself/somebody to ask for help :p

I just had a sociology AS exam on family and households, it was insanely easy!

Some people were doing that in my exam hall, how did you find the course? The first year (AS) looks absolutely rubbish to me but the second seems alright...

So after you guys saying f maths is a good idea I've got an open day for my 6th form soon and picked these 5 for the day, maths, f maths, physics, chemistry, computing. I was originally gonna do applied ICT but, no. :p

The arithmetic question seemed different from the past papers. :/
But in all it wasn't monstrous I don't think.

Did you get a really easy question, something like Q10 ii:

Prove that the gradient of the curve y=x^u at the point (1,0) is 4.

Just differentiate, i'll have those 6 marks thanks :D

I'd like to do further maths but my school doesn't offer it. I would either have to get a tutor or self-teach and I probably wouldn't be able to afford a tutor.

So the general consensus seems to be, do not take Further Maths as it is very hard. Yeah? :p

no :p it's not hard. It makes you think a bit more, and goes into some more advanced topics than your standard a-level. It'll cover basic topics necessary for university level mathematics/physics. Maybe not so much with biology/chemistry, but more stats experience can never hurt i suppose :p

Actually i'm thinking of Additional further maths..some interesting stuff in there actually iirc. The courses I looked at were OCR MEI so I dont know how much variation there is across the boards :).

My GF studies biology at oxford and didnt do a-level maths, let alone further maths. So by no means is it a pre-requisite for science :)

Just over half a day till my first exam, can do it in 40 minutes and it's an hour and 15 minutes, I could probably do the paper twice in that time :D. In fact, I will check it through and then do it again. Will have to have one massive scribble fest at the end of the exam to make sure they use the neat version.

If you really want to do it you should persuade your school to offer the ability to learn further maths through the FMSP (further maths support programme). My school does this an it works quite well (although it requires some independence as there isn't much in the way of scheduled lesson time).

Likewise, I had two FP1 mocks last week, and managed to complete both with >90% marks in less than an hour, the full exam is 105 minutes :D

I just had my first exam today, AS Product Design.

It was a resit that my teacher made everyone in the class do. Im quietly confident that ive done well in it. Regardless, i've already got a C and only needed something like 70% for a B so im hoping i get that.

Still got Physics, ICT and General Studies to go though...
