Hey guys,

I have a Asda interview coming up on Wednesday not sure if it's a 'Magic' one that I've been hearing about as I haven't received any emails or had the person that I rang said anything about a 'Magic' interview.

The job I applied for was a Warehouse Operative.

Any advice?

What should I wear? (I have a Grey Primark suit I was thinking of wearing)

Thanks!

What's a "magic" interview sorry?

Yeah grey suit would be fine.

Do you have any retail experience: yes

Can you handle stock well: yes

Would you be willing to work on the tills: yes

Can you make a rabbit appear from a hat: errrm no?!

Sorry, this position is not suited for you

:D. Was my first thought too but thought I best ask.

Apparently in consists of :

Some interesting team challenges
A short interview
A tour of the depot
Insight into Asda and the roles we offer
A chance to “Have a Go”

I do hope the "Have a go" is some sort of gladiatorial combat :D

I have heard of the magic interview and know it is not some on parr BBC Apprentice challenge - be noticed and a gob****e. just be your calm self while logical and happy to be there. If this is not the case then pretend.

Best of luck with it :)

I had one a few years ago after finishing my apprenticeship and in need of money.

I can't actually remember what I wore. It was quite a casual/laid back affair though.

It was a group of 8 or so people, doing things like talking to the person next to you for a few minuted then introducing them to the rest of the people. Then various other silly little 'team building' kinda things. Then got a tour of the place and a fair bit of information about all kinds of things.

I think I was then invited back for a second interview which was one-to-one which was alright too really, the usual stuff.

At the end of the day it's Asda, it's not gonna be that bad :)

I got the job there, and left a week later after being offered a job I applied for 2 months previous that I actually wanted!

ASDA interviews are those damn stupid team-building exercise things. Things like making building a bridge that will take a person's weight out of a stack of old newspapers or something.

As above - I used to work for Asda and you'll have mostly team building stuff, like introducing others in the group and making structures out of balloons etc. You'll have a second one-on-one interview if they like what they see in the first interview.

EDIT - I wore a suit and tie. It may be "only Asda" but it's still an interview.

I really don't see the point of the big team building exercise where they employer wants "the best of the best" for a minimum wage crap job. I understand it's a buyer's market but it's just tacky, delusional and pretty embarrassing that the staff running it actually believe it all.

Currys interview 'humiliation' as graduate 'made to dance'

When you consider that an interview is meant to be as much about getting to know the employer as it is about the employer getting to know you, I'd have to be pretty desperate to not just walk out of an interview like that.

Blame the American influence of Wal*Mart. At least, that's what I understood when I was there: all the cheesy team-building etc only came in after the merger/acquisition/whatever happened.

"Welcome to the ASDA family! We need to be sure you'll fit right in at the ASDA family!"

"Oh you need a pay advance to make rent? Get out."

usually you get paired up in a room of 8-10 and have a few minutes to get to ask the person who your fighting for a job some questions . then you get asked to tell everyone else about that person.

then you do a team activity of their choice. people on outsides of room take notes and are looking for mr or mrs average. too quiet is no good and too loud or cocky is no good

if its same as 3/4 years ago the ''have a go'' will be an order picking test where some names and numbers are read out from tape and you mark down what you hear. simple and im sure is more of a hearing test than anything else
