Asking someone where they are from

... maybe SH confused NF with a philosopher .. and it was actually an unexpected existential question,

you've actually heard the interview with her ? NF holds herself in high intellectual regard - r4 interview with NF, not twitter speculation, I evaluated SH and found her of sound mind lol
Lack of intelligence by both participants in the conversation to acknowledge what was happening and avoid DEFCON5
how NF manages a charity with that level of self-awareness/diplomacy, anyones guess, she should have broken her Stockhausen dependency.

..

still now only 2 weeks - NF scorn will soon be nuked by Meghan and her netflix truth , still I'm sure they are donating proceeds to a worthy cause.

Please wait until you're done having a stroke before posting, this gobbledygook is too far gone.

Again, you seem to be missing the point that she could have just asked her what her heritage was, without implying that she couldn't possibly be from the UK.

You can't use something you interpreted into someone else's words as "proof" that your interpretation is fact. That's circular. It's maybe one step up from the "dog whistle" excuse.

As a foreigner in this country I take no offense when someone asks where I am from. I usually say the place where I am living, Cornwall as an example. Then they usually ask no I mean where are you actually from, I then say South Africa. I really see nothing wrong in this story.

You Saffa's tend to be a relatively chilled bunch but seems most people on here take a similar approach! It's only the race-baiters and White knights that seem to be getting their knickers in a twist.

Man I bet your dope dealer is RICH

If someone asked and then found out that person was from Senegal as an example. If the person asking them went on to say I absolutely hate all those bloody ********* who live in Senegal, just a bunch of thieves. Then that is absolutely aweful behavior and very racist. That's how the world used to be and what we have thankfully mostly moved past these days.

What happened in this story seems like a faux pas more than active racicsm.

Ya but that doesn't cause enough froth does it? Being a fellow saffer myself, it always makes me laugh how far some Brits will go to claim something is racist.

See the problem here is that she isn't a foreigner and so it takes on a more insidious tone.

But this isn't to do with my interpretation. As has been pointed out many times, the "really come from" phrase/question has been synonymous with casual racism for ages. So much so it made it into that yougov questionnaire about racism.

It isn't like it is some new thing to come out of this particular conversation...

I get asked where I'm from sometimes because my accent isn't as heavy as people local to me with working in a city and speaking to people online for decades, it's nice that finally I too can be a victim.

But that is not at all like conversation in question. NF had already established that she was a british citizen and born in the UK...

Yes, but there is nothing wrong with asking which is the whole point.

No, there is nothing wrong with asking, if you haven't established where they are from yet....

You are again using a situation/conversation that is not the same as the one being discussed.
