Asking someone where they are from

No, there is nothing wrong with asking, if you haven't established where they are from yet....

You are again using a situation/conversation that is not the same as the one being discussed.

This is like pulling teeth...

The situation is similar because Timmothy too is asked multiple times. Because his first answer is generally not accepted. Just like mental woman's.

There is a reason behind not accepting that first answer.

You're telling me..

She's wearing African clothes, that's the context of the follow up question, it wasn't the woman making some vicious remark; it was related to the fact that the person in question was deliberately appearing to be of African descent. This isn't even very nuanced or hard to understand. It's not like she walked upto Stormzy and and told him he wasn't British.

Just seen this funnily enough lol

You just don't get it do you.

It was fine to ask her where she was from. She did that and got the answer.

The issue is then saying "where do you really come from". It doesn't matter what she is wearing at that point. The implication that she could not actually be from the UK (in spite of her saying so) is there.

Then after that, she even asked "“Oh I can see I am going to have a challenge getting you to say where you’re from. When did you first come here?”

SH was quite clearly not accepting that she could be British and was born in the UK.

Jono over analysing the conversation recalled from memory again...

Meanwhile, watch the short clip in this article where she recalls the conversation:

Lady SH's claimed sentences in that interview are:

Lady SH "where are you from"
NF: "sistah space"
SH: "where are you from"
NF: "well we're based in Hackney"
SH: "No, where are *you* from"
...
SH: "No, where are you really from"

And then she says: "and this question was asked about 7 or 8 times." She doesn't know *exactly* how many times it was asked as she's a normal human being who doesn't have a photographic memory...

Original claimed conversation/"transcript"
Lady SH: Where are you from?
Me: Sistah Space.
SH: No, where do you come from?
Me: We're based in Hackney.
SH: No, what part of Africa are you from?
Me: I don't know, they didn't leave any records.
SH: Well, you must know where you're from, I spent time in France. Where are you from?
Me: Here, the UK.
SH: No, but what nationality are you?
Me: I am born here and am British.
SH: No, but where do you really come from, where do your people come from?
Me: 'My people', lady, what is this?
SH: Oh I can see I am going to have a challenge getting you to say where you're from. When did you first come here?
Me: Lady! I am a British national, my parents came here in the 50s when...
SH: Oh, I knew we'd get there in the end, you're Caribbean!
Me: No lady, I am of African heritage, Caribbean descent and British nationality.
SH: Oh so you're from...

Can you really not see that she's simply recalling the gist of the conversation, she's claiming some questions along those lines were repeated and roughly what she answered, she's recalling the initial few lines of conversation on daytime TV and it's not the same as the "transcript" people are referring to.

This should have been a totally obvious point to follow when it was made earlier, the exact wording isn't particularly important and we'll never know what it was unless someone had a recording device.

And the point that has been made is that although the question was answered, the question can mean different things given the context. Definitely it should have been phrased better to maybe remove the need for context (from what I understand of what was said) but if someone provides you with information, but it was not the information you were trying to find out (which is different to not believing the answer), it seems reasonable to ask again. Again, it really should have been asked better, if not the first time it should have been phrased better in the following questions.

**EDIT** As a basic example "What is your favourite colour?"
"If you mix red and green you get yellow"
"Yes, but what is your favourite colour?"

By asking again, it doesn't say you don't believe mixing red and green gives you yellow, it's because you didn't want that information, you wanted the answer to your question.
