ASRock 775Dual-VSTA for Conroe (Core2) with both AGP/PCI-E and DDR1/DDR2 support

Darg, what you're experiencing there sounds like your agp card is not getting enough juice despite having the Antec 550. Freezing with the last sound repeating and rebooting when gaming were exactly the symptoms I would get if I used my old 6600gt with an underpowered psu. Those agp cards are power hungry beasts unlike the equivilent pci-e model.
I picked up a brand new xpertvision 7600gt pci-e for less than £90 from a competitor and have no issues with it. Even came with a bundled game (Spellforce 2).
I'm running 24/7 at 290fsb and 109pci-e. Last time I ran memtest it went over 1000% with no errors at all before I stopped it.

Hi
Can someone recommend some nice cheap ddr or ddr2,2 gigs, to use with this board and an e6300.A mild overclock would be nice but not essential.

Are you planning to upgrade to a p965 board in the future or just stick with the VSTA? I ask because overclocking on the p965 boards requires good ram. On the VSTA, benchmarks have shown that ram type/speed makes almost no difference.

I probably will but,if the board is stable for now,not for at least a year.
I already have 2x 512 geil ddr.

Unless you really feel that you need 2GB I would just stick with what you have. I'm running Vista with 1GB and it's fine.

Thanks for the tips. I doubt it's my card dying as it's only a couple of months old at most. I'll try to get a multimeter so I can do the AGP volt mod. That's supposed to help with overall stability of the system and with any luck might give my card enough volts to run stable. I really wish Asrock would give an advanced version of their BIOS where you can atleast see the values relating to auto or high or whatever other values there.

Some good news though. I'm back up to a 300FSB with my RAM on DDR200 with lax timings. Memtest was stable up til 204% which is better then i've seen before. I'm still getting those same problems though. As for the Med2:TW slowdown that seems to be a software issue with the game itself. Others have reported similiar problems when trying to run a battle in the larger cities. Just looking forward to a patch for that problem.

Funny thing is I attacked the city and didn't have any fps slowdown that time. It's only now that I'm defending it that I'm getting the slowdown. I'll have to just tell it to autoplay the battle. I should win. 600def vs 200att :)

After RMA'ing my board because of blue screen crashes and getting it back only to discover the same thing happening i eventually tracked the problem down to a USB driver - specifically for my WebStar Cable Modem. Updated that and so far, no more bluescreens, although the problem was very intermittant so it's hard to be sure they're gone for good yet.

Strangely i had no problem with those drivers on my old board, but just a heads up for anyone else with a Webstar modem and bluescreens.

what speeds can you overlock a 805 processor with this board ?

can you get it up to 3.6 on air with an upgraded fan with ddr2 memory ?

cheers

Not unless you have a super 805, you can't increase the cpu voltage. Mine only goes to 2.9 on this board, it reached 3.5 on an Asus P5nd2

Can I overclock?

Hi chaps, I have this Mobo and I'm just waiting on a E6300 to arrive. I understand this board is pants to overclock with, but I'm really just aiming for a 2.1Ghz overclock on the chip, which I know some of you have attained using this very board. But being a newb to overclocking etc, I don't understand the relation the board, RAM, and chip have together for the purpose. Anyway, My question is, can I overclock to 2.1GHZ, with the equipment I have:

*Asrock 776 Dual-VSTA

*Conroe E6300

*DDR2 5300 RAM

It's the RAM I'm not sure on, it's just one 1GB stick. It's just a generic make too. Will this prevent me from overclocking to 2.1? and would a E6300 @ this speed be comparable to a E6400?

i jsut got some ddr2 ram and its really unstable on latest bios. gonna check the ram on another board first though as havent had time yet. I got some crucial 10th anniverery pc5300.

IS there any problems with ddr2 on this board

Beast you should be able to get a good overclock with that RAM so long as there aren't compatibility issues. A few people have had problems with DDR2 RAM. From what I've seen the most stable systems are AGP and DDR1 which stands to reason as this board is basically an AGP, DDR1 board with converters from PCI-E to AGP and DDR2 to DDR1 channels. Don't expect anything magic from the board as it's quite unstable for me with AGP and DDR even with no overclocks.

Running at 2.1Ghz now though pretty much as stable as I've had it yet. Still getting a lot of unexplainable crashes in games.

There wouldn't be any problems using an X1900XT with this board would there? I need to get a new motherboard and I'm thinking that it would be better off me moving to Conroe, getting this board and keeping my DDR memory for now. Seems pointless spending loads on another 939 board...
