Thanks mate - I just want the entirely subjective review.

"It does the job would buy one to build for a mate who knows nothing about computers."

Or "I could get it to work fine after continual tweaking but this is not the PC to build for your grandparents"

Or the dreaded "I am posting this from an internet cafe in France, the ASROCK burned down my house, killed my cat, got my girlfriend pregnant, framed me for two kilos of charlie and now I am on the run."

lol thats some funny **** :D

Freezing in BF2

Ive had this board for 1 month.
The basic specs
Asrock 775Dual_VSTA
E6400
2 Gig geil PC-6400 CS4 (great deal on here)
2 x SATA II WD320K's
Inno 6800 GT (Actic Cooler)

Thats the main components. There are no other cards inserted.

My PC now locks during 10-30 minute period of playing BF2. I get a screaming noise and the computer will willingly re boot on the reset button.

I was running the 6800Gt @ ultra speeds 400/1100 but seems even slowed down it still locks up.

It does not lock up during memtest/sandra and seems fine using pinnacle studio 9/ Photoshop CS.

Ive set the RAM to 667 as the board doesn’t support 800

I never noticed it locking up while i used 2 GIG PC-2100 RAM?

Im beginning to think its a RAM issue as its the only thing ive changed since the crshing started. Memtest has run on both banks for 4 hours today without problems.

Ive built quite a few pc's but no nothing about overclocking

this is a pic from my bios

First impression is OK, it all went together well and booted first time.

Had a few bizarre crashes, but reinstalling drivers seems to have sorted that...so far. I havent updated the bios yet. Will do that tomorrow and then start clocking.

I bought the board so that i could upgrade slowly, as the missus would freak if I spent a grand in one go. ;)

Can you up the voltage on your RAM? Might help. I have read reports that it is read by the BIOS as only needing 1.8 volts when it is actually 2.1.

I think thinking of getting some DDR2 to go in this has anyone else had problems with the geil stuff that is on this weeks special, or do you think I should try another brand ?

I wouldnt say ive got problems... although my E6400 doesnt clock past 285 before i get lock ups.

Im waiting for a good priced 8800 card then im jumping ship to a more tweakable MOB.

ive got the clocking bug unfortunatly. :p

Does anyone know if this board will be able to support the 6x50 series, I only ask beacuse it would need a 1333fsb BIOS update and this would let me use an e4300 in this board at 2.7Ghz if I use the 1333mod to make it run at 266 default. The 1333 mod will not work on this board yet but I'm thinking when the 6x50 series is released then maybe it will.

I doubt it, most people clocking on this board top out the FSB at ~290-300, so getting to 333 is a fair way out of reach.

How do i go about getting my ram to work in 1:1?

I'm running OCZ pc4000 gold ddr1 & a E6300 on this board, I'm on stock cooler & it's running like this at the moment.

Would i be correct in saying that i need to overclock more if i have the ram running at 400mhz mode?

Just plugged in the new 4core Dual VSTA. Brand new E4300, with my old DDr400 ram and an AGP 9800 pro.

on startup it regsters right CPU speed of 1.8ghz, and in bios. I've set the ram to 400.

but when i start windows it only says 1710mhz in CPU-z and in TAT, with ram running at 190 and not 200.

its running an old 1.1 bios with the new 1.4 available, unfortunately i don't have any reliable floppy disks reliable enough for a bios update rso I want to go buy some new ones then do it.

is there a way to update through windows?

haven't tried any overclocking yet. will wait about a week

Well I bought this mobo a couple of weeks ago and installed it this weekend without having to reinstall Windaz. It worked a treat!

I have the Core 2 Duo E6400 flavour chip, an ATI X850Pro, 2 x 512 mb DDR400 and a couple of ATA 80gb drives and had no problems.

The only thing I noticed is that it said the memory was running at 333 mhz i.e. PC2700 speeds. Initially I thought I had been sold slower RAM than I thought but from reading this thread it appears that I might need a BIOS update.

I haven't tried overclocking the machine but I was reading about putting one of them there Zalman fans in as a replacement for the Intel one since they are supposed to be pants.

My intel fan is giving me 35c on load with no OC
not bad i think.

It is quite loud though. I would have got a more silent HSF, but my graphics card fan is even louder so no point for now.

I've only ever OC'd my last PC which was an NF7-s and there were plenty of guides for that. Now I'm just learning about all these new and different bios settings before starting to tinker. I'll try and keep updating my progress with this new 4core.

I'm getting quite a few crashes.
I don't know what the reason is yet, but its just random when using windows. it just instantly reboots.

need to run some diagnosis checks. I've put everything back to stock. I suspect the ram which are 2 non-identical DDR400. one a crucial value, the other a Twinmos.

I'm thinking about getting this board & an E6300 to replace my aging XP2500-M/Abit NF7-S v2.0 setup (keeping my 2Gig PC3200/X800XT PE AGP).

Just been reading a few posts in this thread, is there now two versions of this board? 4 core?

Cheers
