ASRock 775Dual-VSTA for Conroe (Core2) with both AGP/PCI-E and DDR1/DDR2 support

22 pages!! got no time to read them all lol

so a quick question if you guys dont mind?

i'd like to get this :

ASROCK dualVSTA motherboard
GEIL 2GB RAM
conroe 1.8ghz

so i can keep my old Leadtek 6800GT 256mb AGP card, will upgrade to better PCI-e card in the future.

will they works well together? also how high can i overclock with this asrock motherboard?

cheers :)

Should all work ok together. Overclocking wise, dont expect too much, some have got over 300 stable while others (myself included) cant get much past 285. It's so minimal I just use it at stock until I'll have the chance to upgrade to a proper mobo.

You will need a molex to square 4 pin adapter to fully power the board. Aside from that you should be golden.

I got a 50% overclock on stock voltage and cooling.

Just to inform people, my Sapphire X1950XT works fine.

I finally got around to building it this week (after it being sat around for 3 days...damn WoW!! :p )

Fired up like a dream first time, which was a nice surprise, as for some reason i was expecting to run into a few hurdles.

It does seem quicker than my old system (xp2500m/X800XT-PE), multi tasking no longer brings it too it's knees. WoW didn't look any different really, which was a little bit of a shame, but it's definately smoother & i can run it with all settings maxed out & experience no slow down at all (yet).

Right, now i just need to clock the thing.... ;)

tbh WoW isn't that graphically great a game. It is 3 years old now and hasn't really had any update to the graphics engine.

If you want to see your moneys worth then get Oblivion/FEAR or one of the other games that can bring most graphics cards to their knees. Yours should fly through them fine ;)

Don't remember the temps off the top of my head.

But, I do recall I ran some 2 core prime 95 stuff for a couple of hours at stock, and then did the same after overclocking.

The temp difference was minimal - perhaps a couple of degrees more when overclocked, and that was using the stock cooler.

Hey guys

Just built my new system based on this mobo and a 6300.

Anyway I've come to change the graphics card for a PCI-express solution and have a few questions!

I took a look at the compatibility list and saw that the 7900gtx cards are supported but no mention of the 7950GX2.

Having just sent the money off for one of these before checking I feel a little daft, especially when I have now done some more digging and found out that these cards can be a little tempremental about what motherboard they work on, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with them at all, or do they think I'll be ok because nearly all of the other 7xxx cards are supported?

Worst case scenario is that I try it and flog it if there are issues but I've done a google and cant find anything that sort of answers the question for me already :)

I really don't know if it will work. You're essentially trying to run SLi through a single 4X PCI-E slot =/

Is there any way to get your money back?? If I were you I would use your 7 day rule that lets you return any item bought online withing 7 days of recieving. If you have *just* ordered it then I would call up their sales team immediately and try to cancel.

I'm sorry but for the price you can get much better single card solutions! They are a waste of money.

Well I purchased it through the MM so its not cost me stupid money. I'll wait for it to arrive and then try it out, dont think theres any harm in giving it a go!

At least if it doesnt work I can warn you guys lol :)

I've been running my Dual/Vsta since last year. I have an e6600 clocked at 290fsb giving me 2611.mhz. I currently have 2x512mb kingston ddr ram and hwinfo tells me it's at 181.4mhz and timings are 2.5-3-3-7.
I'm thinking of ordering 2gb of the Ocuk (elixir) ddr2 pc6400 800mhz ram.
That is advertised as having timings of 5-5-5-15. I know that 2gb is better than 1gb but can anyone tell me if the ddr2 timings will improve performance or actually hinder me?
Thanks.

Ron3003, the board doesn't support PC6400 RAM, as per the specs page ; 667 is the fastest it supports.

To be honest, I didn't notice any difference when I changed from DDR to DDR2; benchies didn't show much difference either.

The timings wont really matter that much. Having 2gb instead of 1 will boost performance when you do memory intensive stuff, like play games. If you just use the PC for general stuff, 1gb should be enough I'd have thought.
