ASRock 775Dual-VSTA for Conroe (Core2) with both AGP/PCI-E and DDR1/DDR2 support

Hi All, (1st post eva)

Was just reading this thread ... very intresting. I have been using this board for about 6 months now and its done really well, thought i would post my spec & 3dmark score:

Asrock 775 Dual Vsta (Bios 1.80)
Pentium 4 D 805 (not over clocked) c/w Thermal Take Big Typhoon
2GB Geil DDR2 667
x1900GT 553 MHz / 747 MHz
200gb Maxtor HD SATA

Score: 4207

This mobo has done really well for me so i could upgrade but now im kinda fully upgraded im thinking of switching boards. I have also just brought another 2gb of Geil DDR2 667 (couldnt resist the offer) :).

Also sorry for the long 1st post....

Was thinking of o/c'in my CPU but havent got a clue how (i read over clocking guide beginners but hmmm im thick lol) was wondering if some one could talk me through it as we have the same board?

Cheers all !

Wondering if someone could help me out?

I bought the GeIL 2GB PC6400C4 memory from OcUK as i was led to believe it was compatible with the 775 Dual VSTA board. However, i've had nothing but BSODs and artifacts on the screen since installing it. I've re-seated it a couple of times to no avail. I've also checked temperature of other components to make sure they weren't overheating - none were.

I've ran orthos and not picked up any errors unlike some others seem to have in the memory thread.

I've also tried various settings in BIOS for the memory from forcing 4-4-4-12 at 333mhz and high voltage to leaving it to auto and still system isn't stable. I've reverted to my to old 512mb Crucial DDR PC2700 sticks until i can find a solution. If i can't can i return the RAM or have i wasted my money?

For info my spec is:
Intel Conroe E6600 2.4ghz
Leadtek Geforce 6800GT 256mb
ASrock 775-Dual-VSTA
450w PSU (using Antec Sonata II case)

Any help would be appreciated :)

also, another question...what speed should I set my ram to in the bios? at FSB 225Mhz I had it set for 133, and it was 150Mhz, i just now increased the FSB to 240 and i'm now running at 120MHZ....what do y'all make of that?

I have the 4core dual-VSTA with a E4400 and 2 x 512 Patriot XBL RAM cooled by a Zalman CNPS9500AT. At present the E4400 is at 2.7GHz (10 x 270) and the RAM is set to DDR400 in the BIOS with timings of 2-2-2-6 @1T the DRAM voltage is set to high. CPU-z readout shows a divider of 4:3 has been applied to the RAM frequency and it is at 202.6MHz.

This set-up is 8hr Orthos stable and gives a super-PI 1M time of 21.9s.

The cpu seems to be maxed out using stock voltage at 2.7GHz and as there is no Vcore adjustment in the BIOS I will have to wait until I have DDR2 and a better mobo to find out how far the E4400 will go.

Encouragingly even on a warm day like today the CPU temp. when running Orthos is only 40C.

Mr. Muppet - hmmm i was just checking on the website and i think 667 5300mhz is the top ddr2 for our mobos, yes you may have a problem installing the 800mhz i think?

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=775Dual-VSTA&s=n

When i went in the shop the advised me to get the 5300 instead of the 800mhz?

I had a little problem with the seating of the ram after a few installs it was okay.

Try upgrading the bios to 1.8 or higher?

It shouldn't be any problem running 800Mhz memory at 667Mhz usually. I think your problem may be that the Geil memory needs 2.1v and this board only supplies 2.03 when set to high.

Well according to the product description on OcUK it runs at 1.9v to 2.1v which is why i purchased it because i assumed it could run at a lower voltage than the board supplies. I guess i assumed incorrectly.

I've tried BIOS update and that hasn't worked. I also ran memtest and got error messages and Orthos halted after 50seconds!!

What chance have i got of returning it to OcUK? Can i swap it for something that will work?

With thread over in memory page about how pooh this set is i'm surprised OcUK are still selling it.

If it doesn't work as advertised you have every right to return it.

Ok, I'm not 100% finished with my overlclock. I've got my FSB up to 300 (which is cool since some people can't go higher than 290) and i'm running the e2160 @2.7Ghz. Unfortunately my pc3200 is running at 187.5 albeit at 2.5, 3, 3, 7. I'd like to get the ram up to stock speeds, and it would be a 3, 3, 3, 8. In the BIOD i've set the ram to run at 166Mhz...is this right? I don't want to set it to 200Mhz and then it get super overlocked and break (it's value ram - a free gift). What do you guys think?

I have my RAM set at 200Mhz and the FSB at 270 the mobo automatically has applied a divider of 4:3 and the RAM runs at 202.6. I suggest you try setting the RAM to 200 and use slack timings, just in case the divider it applies gives over 200Mhz. But I guess it will apply a 3:2 divider and your RAM will run at 200Mhz, then you can tighten the timings.

Hope this helps

I came across a post on Ocworkbench that said Kentsfield CPU's were supported on the 775Dual=VSTA boards from BIOS version 2.1 onwards. Can anyone confirm if this is true please?

I've done various searches to confirm/deny this but haven't come up with anything as of yet.

Here's all I could find dag;

Halfway down the page a couple of posters state that the cpu support list did state that 4core cpu's were now supported but that Asrock changed the page fairly quickly, probably to promote the new 4core/vsta better.

Nice find ron30003, thanks for that

So it does look like it supports Quad core, but Asrock don't/didn't want that known because of the release of the 4CoreDual-VSTA.

Well I have both boards, the dual/vsta and the 4coredual/vsta. If there's a difference I'll be damned if I can see it. I've had my dual/vsta since last October coupled with an e6600, it's my gaming/encoding rig.
I also have a 4coredual/vsta fitted with an e4400 o/c to 2700mhz that's my sons. Just today I've setup another 4coredual/vsta with an e2160 to replace my decrepid surfing/downloading machine.
Only slight niggle I have atm is that with the 4core asrock board the back ports are usb 2.0 but my cases front usb ports are stuck at usb 1.1 despite the fact that those same ports worked fine at usb 2.0 with the previous board, a pcchips m848a and barton xp3200

Hey, just installed the E4400 on the 4Core and the only problem im having is that the stock intel HSF is running at 1700~ rpm and not changing - so hence when I go on a game etc the temperature shoots up. Anything I'm missing? Its plugged into the 4pin cpu fan thing to the right of where the chip is.

Anyone running the 4core Dual-Vsta motherboard with a Radeon 9700 Pro AGP card if so what drivers are you using because If I run mine with just vga drivers after Windows install it's ok but if I load CAT 7.** it falls over just after boot.

If you could let me know what drivers you are using it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

hi

very suprised to see this thread still going  , i bought one of these boards last year with a view to upgrading to conroe

it never happened

im thinking about upgrading soon but what would be the best bang for buck cpu that the board supports

what cpus does it support now ? is there a list anywhere ? i upgraded to latest firmware the other day :)

cheers

get the e2160 or the e4400, you'll want the highest multiplier you can get. I've got an e2160, which is 1.8Ghz stock, and i've got it up to 2.7Ghz....easy as pie, and cheap as chips

Does the 4CoreDual motherboard require anything more than the 20-pin power connector to get it working? I've plugged in my PSU (Enermax 350W EG 365P-VE) and not even the BIOS screen comes up, no beeps, nothing!! Reading the manual and it mentions about the 4-pin connector that needs to be connected but the 4-pin connector on my PSU is different to the one on the 4CoreDual.

I tried clearing the CMOS but nothing so far, is it my PSU that has gone wrong during the short time I replaced motherboards?!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
