ASRock 775Dual-VSTA for Conroe (Core2) with both AGP/PCI-E and DDR1/DDR2 support

What's your PSU and have you plugged in the power connectors to the card? If there are any that is.

Hi - yes. I have a 450W power supply, and have previously run XP successfully, and both Molex connectors are attached.

hi ive red on other sites that this boards pci-e only runs @ x4,
please tell me this isint true,
i did have a Asrock motherboard before that ran at 4x mode with my nvidia 6800xt... just wondering if this board will run my card at 16x as its not listed on the Asrock website compatibility list.. many thanks dave

well the board i was looking at is Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA.

Yep its true

"The 8800 gts scores about 15% less at 4x in 3Dmark06. So I would say slower cards wouldn't notice much of a difference."

If you are using this board as a mid-grade, i.e. a stepping stone, before upgrading the mobo to use old components, then it remains fully worth it.

Sleep mode/ Vista/ this board

Hello all.

Quick question. Has anyone managed to get this board to allow Vista to sleep in S3 mode (ie with no fans going etc)

There seems to be limited options for ACPI in the BIOS - I wondered what other people experience was?

As usual - any help would be appreciated!

which cpu - 2160 or 4300

Basically, i'd like this to be as cheap as possible.
A 2140 has too low a multiplier, so i was looking at the 2160 or 4300.

on ocuk it says that the 2160 has a conroe core, but the 4300 has an allendale. how much difference does this make, and other retails say that the 2160 has an allendale core - i'm rather confused.

Finally, i'm using DDR1 - 400 ram on this mobo, so would *love* to hit 300 on the FSB. I take it that the stock cooler is completely inadequate for that.

ps. my case does have reasonable cooling however.

Finally, where can i find details of the pencil voltage mod thanks.

You should check out the new e4500, with the 11x multiplier, it's best chip for this board.
I've got my FSB up to 305Mhz, but i've not seen too many above that without a volt mod. You can google for the pencil mod.
I'm using a cheap Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro, and my temps hardly get above the mid 50's. This computer is miles ahead of my old p4 3.0Ghz. I'm using DDR ram as well, btw.

so the 4500 has an 11 multiplier. That would give 3.3ghz.

to be honest, im only looking for 3ghz, thus 10*300 would be perfect. (ie a 4300).

but to save a few quid, im willing to get a 2160. which might run 9x306 (seems a 'sweet' fsb on this board) = 2.75ghz.

Any of these will be a whopping upgrade from my AMD XP 1700+ @ 2.4ghz :)

Fortunately i have 1.5gb of BH-5 that should hit 230+ (easily does 210 on 5-2-2-2)

I think that looking at the multipliers, the 2140 is completely out of the window.

keep in mind that there are only 2xddr and 2xddr2 slots, so if you have 3x512MB ddr you can't use all 3. Of course if you have 1x1024 and 1x512, you're ok :)

DOH!

I guess i'll be running with 1gig then.

Not to worry, as I won't be touching the VISTA beast.

I also meant 4400 in my earlier post, not 4300 :)

yeah, I think you're onto a winner. If you need a hand with OC settings, let me know. I'm not an overclocking god (this is my first real overclock) but maybe we can help each other push this motherboard as far as it'll go. As for volt/pencil mods, i'll let you do that first :P

no problem, i've done a fair bit of overclocking in the past.
I think i'll be lapping the HSF and cpu for optimal cooling.

Got a few questions about this board please.

Is anyone using a 1950xtx with this board and whats the performance hit like?

Is anyone using mixed 1gig DDR1 sticks in dual channel?

Thanks.

I have mixed ddr1 sticks and they do indeed run in dual channel

Hi all, what would u reconmend a q6600 or a e4500 for the asrock 4core. It will be an upgrade from my A64 3500+,i want to re use my 2gig kinston 3200 and x1950 pro. Also do u think an antec 480 psu will do the job.
Thanks in advance.
