ASRock 775Dual-VSTA for Conroe (Core2) with both AGP/PCI-E and DDR1/DDR2 support

think the issue is specifically with vista mate

This issue is to do with Asrock/ Via implementation as far as i can tell. I'm an Asrock sucker.

There are 2 excellent threads to be found on the Via Arena and Nvidia Nzone forums regarding Asrock, Via PT880, Nvidia AGP and Vista corruption.

its really ******* me off to be fair aswell , everything else about vista im liking but all i wanna do is play a bit of CS ,

with the ancient default driver i have to use to not get corruption i get about 40 fps in source :/ and the original CS doesnt even work

ive read some threads via google but no solutions yet :( seems nvidia is just ignoring everyone

happens on via chipsets with nvidia i think. i dont game much apart from CS so defintly dont want a new gfx card , this 6800 coped with it fine :(

I meant the issue only applies to vista. Sorry, should have been more clear. I'm using XP, the ASrock 4Core and a Nvidia 7600GT AGP card and all is peachy.

yes its just in vista ! too be more precise its only in vista when not using the aero fancy stuff :/

was fine on xp :( might have to go dual boot but dont really want too just for one game

Will this board run this:

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804

ie will it run at 667Mhz?

I intend to upgrade the board at some (near) time and this memory is aonly a few quid more than 667 RAM.

Ta

Seems it will, put USB device in I/O port and in Boot in the BIOS select removable drives, make sure the device is there and select it as 1st boot device.

Just worked with my flash drive. Hope this helps

I'm using this board now and am ready to move to another board with PCI-E and DDR2.
Aside from the overclocking potential of a new board, is there likely to be a speed increase just in moving off this hybrid board?

tiny one yes

probably only notice it in benchmarks and not in real world

i dont think the via chipsets as fast as the intels and nforces etc

GA-P35-S3 E4400 @2.7 vs Asrock board with E4400 @ 2.7
Same memory, 7600GT PCI-e gfx and Hdd

PCmark 2002 :10567/21500/1235 vs 10630/22036/1253

Super-PI 1M : 21.2 vs 22.1

3D2k01 : 29911 vs 28505
3D2k03 : 14369 vs 14009
3D2k05 : 6334 vs 6218
3D2k06 : 3455 vs 3363
Aqua3 : 99062 vs 96174
X3 Demo : 61.2 vs 60.3

As the previous man said "not much"

Ok, so the majority of any speed benefit would be in the overclocking potential rather than the board itself.

I'm running:
e4300
2Gb OCZ Special Ops DDR2
7900GTX 512mb PCI-E

I cannot O/C the CPU even 1Mhz on the Asrock, and I'm hoping a new board might yield some better (or any) results.

I'm not a benchmarking monkey, I'm more interested in FPS in games and being able to bump the quality up.

Hi,

I bought this board over the weekend and it turned up last night.

Was stupidly hoping to not have to format, just because I have a lot of sorting to do with the files etc first. Seems it required a fresh install of windows over the top.

Had to turn off the PC last night as I was f00ked and needed sleep, it was at the point of setting-up windows after the install, so no doubt I'll need to re-install it again :F.

I've got a 500GB Samsung Spinpoint and 2x1GB OCZ Platinum PC6400 turning up tomorrow so will be doing a fresh install anyway.

I'm really new to overclocking Pentiums (infact it's the first I've had, always had AMD) and dont quite understand what I need to be setting etc. Any advice?

My old spec was:
Barton 2500 @ 2.3GHz
NF7-S v2
1x 1GB, 2x512MB Geil Value (2GB Total)
7800GS

Currently I have:
E2140
775Dual-VSTA
7800GS
1x1GB, 1x512MB Geil Value

the dual vsta only runs at 667mhz so the ram is overkill on this.

i'm upgrading this board to another, probably p35 chipset as this has been slow for me, i run a E6300 with 2 gig of kingston value ram 667mhz. i think my ram holds this back.

i havent managed an overclock yet!

Problem with this board is that as it's a budget entry to C2D people buy a budget chip to go with it ie the e2140. You need to spend a few pounds more on the processor to get the best out of the limited fsb overclocking capability here and that means an e2180 with the 10x multiplier or best is the e4500 with 11x multiplier.

Yeap, x4, doesn't make much difference to performance of budget cards, but will do for higher spec. ones

Will this limit my new x1950 pro much?

Just bought one and didn't realise that this mobo only had pci express x4.

Has done me well with my 6800gt, so perhaps it's time I changed it anyway.

Edit: Done some more searching and it looks like only the very latest gfx cards are just startng to reach the limits of 4x so mine should be fine.

Hi all, i got the q6600 in the end with this board as a stop gap till next gpu,s are out.At present using a HIS x1950 pro and 2 gig or ddr 400 kingston, but all settings in bios on auto she boots at 2.31 no good so set to asyng and defualt 266fsb and it wont boot so i have found the max i can get is 264 which gives me 2376ghz which am happy with as a £200 upgrade from an a64 3500+.
But the problem is i tried setfsb and got fsb upto 293 giving me 2650ghz nearly and i set ram to ddr200 in bios at cas 2-3-3-8 and cmr1 ,i dont no the divider but ends up as ddr440 with the overclock. So why cant i run the same fsb in bios,am running latest 1.60 bios for sata 2 model.Just for interest Running at defualt i get 35000 3d marks 01 score up from 24000 running same gpu and ram from me old 3500+,when q6600 overclocked i get 38500,for got to say the 3500+ was overclocked from 2.2 to 2.7.And 3Dmark 06 for the 3500+ i got 4400.defualt q6600 got 5600 and overclocked 5700.Temps dont come into it as i using big typhoon 120 and on idle all 4 core are below 30 and full load well uder 50 mind u it aint overclocked much lol.To some it up am a happy chappy apart from cant set fsb in bios, but not a bad stop gap on the cheap.Laterz.:p
