ASRock 775Dual-VSTA for Conroe (Core2) with both AGP/PCI-E and DDR1/DDR2 support

Had this board for a year, tis ok. However do not expect to be able to overclock more than a couple of percent.

Not like the 1.2Ghz extra I just got from my new IP35 Pro!

:D

E6400 from 2.13 stock now at 3.2Ghz on the Abit.

Could only get 2.4 max out of the ASRock.

The extra 1Ghz I have now over stock makes a noticable difference.

Same problem when I had mine, E6400 would go to 2.4/2.6 tops but now am on 3.4 with the Asus P5k. They are ok as a go-between board and mine was fine for 12 months but dont expect any magic from it

Just thought I'd add that the 3850/3870 DOES work with this board and the 4CoreDual board.

You will need to go into the bios however and set:

PCI-E DOWNSTREAM PIPELINE = DISABLED

If you don't you will get severe artifacts in 3D MODE.

==========================

On my board, managed to get a E4300 (1.8Ghz) to 2.67Ghz stable so far (295Mhz). 300Mhz is definate no go unfortunately :( Will have to see what else I can do, but I expect I will be changing to P35 chipset, or X38/X48 as I'd like to crossfire :)

What speed is your DDR2 running at? - I@'m having a hard time getting mine set up properly.

It's running at 295Mhz at the moment, normally at 290 though as I found that stable. In terms of timings, I'm not sure what it is currently running at as it's all on auto (naughty I know), and the dram voltage is 'normal'.

you are my hero i just installed a new 3850 and been pulling my hair out try so many drivers and updates. never new what half the bios settings did.

many thanks for the info

Has anyone had any joy getting an XpertVision 8800gt to work with this board at all.
I'm getting a new mobo in a few weeks hopefully, but it would be nice to use the 8800 for a while beforehand.

Thanks.

You will need to download or modify the BIOS to Gen1 mode and flash it, however you'll need to borrow someone else's PC/motherboard to do it as it fails to POST if it's installed (even with another video card also installed, AGP or PCI).

Personally I think it's just easier to get a new mobo (even an older chipset like P965 that still OC well), especially as since if you've already got a PCI-e card and DDR2 RAM, the novelty of this board is lost.

Ok, thanks for the advice ;)

I know it would be easier to just buy a new board, and this is what i intend to do, but i won't have the money to buy one for a few weeks yet.

I'll have a think about flashing the bios, but i may just leave it until i get the new mobo.

Thanks
Kelvin.

Basically using an Asus gt bios you can get an 8800GT to run on this board.

To the other guy about fast writes, I can't remember sorry. I think it is ok to turn them on though.

E4300, I could hit 300 mem easy with AGP, but with PCI-E cards I had to drop to about 270.

What exactly was happening or issues are you suffering to limit to only 270? Are you sure you didn't swap to ddr2 at the same time?

BTW, even with a PCI-E card > Make sure you have AGP voltage set to high, as it helps out with pci-e as well :)

can anyone tell me if this memory will be ok with the asrock board

The issue is directly related to PCI-E frequency which is correlated with the FSB - even though it claims to be ASYNC. I think we discussed this a few pages ago... =)

When using an AGP card I get no issues with the high PCI-E frequency obviously. My PCI-E 7300GT craps out well before ~110 PCI-E (IIRC) which is 300 FSB. It was fine with the AGP 9800 Pro. I only whacked the 7300GT ( with the correct Shader Model version) to try the Bioshock Demo.. and was surprised by just how well it did after some hard core over clocking. And this is silent, no fan on the 7300.

3d mark 06 Results.

AGP ATi 9800; @2.7GHz (300FSB) gives a Mark of 1200
PCI-E 7300GT; @2.4GHz (266FSB) gives a Mark of 1612
(default clock, seems to be because of SM3 elements)
Overclocked 7300GT; GPU525/MEM373 gives a Mark of 2101

More than adequate for ETQW at 1440x900 with med details. And Crysis on Low =)

Anyhoo - now I have PCI-E graphics and DDR II, a sterling case, full power PSU et cetera... I am just watching the merry go round until it is time to get a solid next gen motherboard, with all the bells and whistles this time.

I know it has been discussed artaxerxes, but.... I run my board at 295 FSB in general but can run it at 300Mhz if needed. I run 2Gb of DDRII, and a PCI-E graphics card and run the PCI-E bus at 109Mhz.

Now going on what you have said, my board should have ***** out well before this FSB figure due to the pci-e bus and fsb being tied (i.e. SYNC and not ASYNC). If that was the case I doubt I'd be able to run it at these speeds. You see, it may have been discussed but not proven.

BTW, i'm using the original 1.8 bios that came with my motherboard.
