Asrock Z68 Extreme 7

hi all !! the latest bios 1.21 worked it's magic..both PCI and inverted mouse problem solved!!
thumbs up for ASrock.

I have the Asrock Z68 Extreme 7 MB and will be starting a new build soon (will need help and advice doing so please :) )

Is there some sort of problem with keyboard or mouse?

Thanks in advance.

well after 2 weeks of having received my replacement from asrock I decided to get my thumbs out and get this thing built but again like my original attempt I'm struggling with fitting the back plate of the cooler(ocuk h2flo), my case(cosmos s) doesn't have a cut out on the mb tray where the cpu socket is so can't fit the mb into the case and do it that.

once I get the back plate fitted it shouldn't take me too long to get the rest done, I thought after my tussle with the back plate last time I'd be able to get it done easier. just hope I don't dame something on the board while trying to get the back plate fitted.

Hi Ynot, if you have issues with the board make sure you download the newest bios and download updated drivers when installing your OS. I have not had any issues with my keyboard or mice on this board.

just put some double sided tape on the back plate to hold it in place, most come with some..

OK thanks rombat,
So when doing a clean install what is the correct order for updates??

Before installing windows 7 change to AHCI mode in bios.
Install OS.
Windows update.
Motherboard drivers.
Graphic Card driver.

Would this be the correct order and thanks.

I would personally change your order of install to:

Set AHCI mode in Bios
Install OS
Motherboard drivers
Graphics card drivers
Windows updates

Hope this helps.

If your installing onto a SSD

Unplug all other hard drives from motherboard
Set AHCI mode in Bios
Install OS
Chipset and vga drivers
Run WEI and restart
Plug other drives back in
All other drivers
Graphics card drivers
Windows updates

Works the best

Thanks Davefran for the advice too.

Installing to HDD btw, going to wait a while before going to SSD.

It is just that it is usually best to install motherboard chipset drivers first after install of windows because it will enable full hardware support in windows for vga and usb interfaces etc and enable best performance of the hardware. It is usually best to get latest chipset drivers from Intel beforehand or motherboard site. Hope this explanation makes sense.

hi sorry been meaning to reply, the back plate does not have double sided tape on it. its the same back plate as for the corsair h60 as the ocuk h2flo cooler is the same as the corsair minus the corsiar brand and fan.

have managed to get it on now and got the mb in the case, will do the rest tomorrow.

Silly Question but when people say "intel chipset drivers" are you refering to a single driver I need to get from an intel website or is it simply a number of drivers for this intel mobo? if so, can I get it from here? (win7 64bit)

http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=Z68 Extreme7 Gen3&o=Win764

if not, where are the other pages for all correct and what are the important drivers? Thank you.

Noob out.

Also, I am building a build (..) with this mobo, someone above said running 'WEI' is this necessary?

unless I'm mistaken by chipset drivers they mean the inf driver

latest from the intel website

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...hipset+Software+Installation+Utility&lang=eng

the one on asrock is older.

what's wei?

I'm just installing windows on a 128gb crucial m4 ssd, do I need to worry about the rapid storage driver(not currently planning on ssd cashing, not created a small 20gb partition for it left it as 1 whole 119.2gb partition of which windows has eaten up ~35gb) or the intel management engine driver?

I've installed the inf, lan, usb3, sata3 drivers, not installed the onboard vga(just d/ed the latest version from the intel site, have installed ccc for my 6950 so will it be a problem going back to install the onboard vga driver?) yet or lucid virtu. using a sound card so not installing the onboard sound drivers.

do I need to install any of the utilities from the cd or are they not needed?

oh and didn't have any issue with bent pins etc this time around, the pc posted fine and the os installed quite quickly(much faster than it did on the 750gb samsung f3 back in febuary 2011.

Thats what I thought too. Thats where I'm going to download the drivers for my Z68 Extreme7 Gen3.

Please tell me if I'm wrong but you have to download them all and install.

Thanks.

System Panel Header on the Asrock Z68 Extreme 7.
I'm a bit confused with these plugs.
Starting with top row Left to right, what is the correct way?
And how do I know what way to turn the plug for + -
I connected the Power LED plug over near the clear CMOS switch, is this correct.

Thanks.
