Assassin's Creed IV- Black Flag

Just finished it. The story, like AC3, is an absolute mess, but the game was pretty good when it actually let you play it as it should be!

Strangely, the gameplay seemed to open up in the last quarter.

Any idea what is going on?:p
I didn't find the story too hard to follow but I can't recall that particular mission to comment on it.

I've got 99% completion now and I've played just over 40 hours, the only thing I've got left to do is collect a few random animus fragments and loot chests on islands on the main map. For anyone else nearing completion, there's a cutscene a bit after the credits start which takes place in a theatre, i'm not sure if you get to see it if you skip the credits so if you're one of these people who wants to see everything(like me :D) its probably best not to skip the credits when they come up. Something else worth mentioning.....if you manage to kill all 4 of the legendary ships you get an extra ability for your ship.

I didn't know about the phone app until it was mentioned in this thread, but it appears my htc one s isn't compatible. I think it's a bit late for me to start using it now :p

Aagh!, I can't make my mind up whether to buy this now or wait till I get a PS4.

They are going for £9 in MM now... It is well worth playing. Some great fun to be had!

If I could sum up my frustration with the game in one moment, it would be this; Second or third to last mission is to assassinate someone at a party. The objective is quite clearly to 'Assassinate person A'. So I walk up to him and kill him....no, the game starts desycnhing! It never said I had to remain unseen, but worst of all, after killing him without being seen, the cutscene starts with someone shouting 'It was him', and all of the guards just start chasing you anyway!....it is just so lazy!

Yes, think I will. Just had a watch of a couple of comparison videos. PC deffo looks so much better. I'm actually quite surprised at the amount of difference, particularly close up walls and stuff.

I can't even max it, but I think it is the best looking game I have seen tbh, especially in the towns. first time walking through Havana, I couldn't believe the detail, and the crispness of it!

Saying that though, there do seem to be quite a few low-res textures dotted throughout the game, that you can notice on occasion

You say you can't max it. What are you running it on?

I think it is pretty hit&miss with regards to performance. People with mega-rigs have problems, and some people seem to be lucky and get great performance.

I have everything maxed except for AA(I can't tell the difference between the options anyway!), and I use medium shadows, and I get around 50-60 most of the time, but it occasionally drops to mid 40s(smoke seems to be the main culprit). On the open seas it is a constant 60.

I seem to have encountered a bug, a side mission early in the game where I have to kill someone, I follow a ship to a landing stage where I see the victim on the jetty marked by a red dot overhead, a nearby ship starts blasting cannons & I lose the battle & respawn further down the coast, the victim is still shown on the map as a red skull but when I get to the jetty the red dot is there but nobody under it  I scoured the island killing guards etc but the victim won't appear, now wherever I go on other missions etc the red dot is still on the map  Is there a way to exit a mission if you can't complete it?

I think people will be much better off disabling vsync in game if they have it on, and forcing vsync and triple buffering via your GPU. My performance was awful until I disabled the built in vsync and then I could crank it up to the max sitting between 50 and 60fps.

Developers just cannot get vsync right at all. :p

Anyone know the cheapest place for this at the moment?

MM or if you must have it now / can't access for whatever reason there are a few sites selling it for £27.

I bought it from play-sc, key came through fine but Uplay is ridiculous in terms of download speed. Had to leave it almost a full day.

Yes but the figure still does not appear, since typing this I read on Ubisoft forums that a lot of people have had this problem with Xbox version although didn't see anyone mention the PC version

I have had a few different glitches in the last couple of days. Have you also tried exiting the game and restarting, I have found this works sometimes.

I have but it doesn't fix it, now wherever I go on the map the the ever expanding distance to this red skull is on screen all the time & it's damn annoying

There was me, in mah boat blasting a few spanish ships far south of the map and then the ingame music piped in with some spooky sounding notes. The fog rolled in heavily and my crew started rambling on about a ghost ship!

As I got closer I saw it was a Legendary Ship and did a U-Turn sharpish! That thing had a ton of cannons on it and I didn't see the full size of it either!
