Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Maybe, but its viking based, more likely to be Norse god mythology, which is a lot better known

I see what you're saying (though I would disagree that Norse mythology (outside of Marvel films)) is better known than King Arthur, but the large majority of the game is set in England rather than the Norse lands, so I still wouldnt be at all surprised to see Englands best known mythology making an appearance.

well, the game is called Valhalla, so probably going to be heavily based in that. Maybe a Camelot dlc, but the game is about Vikings, not England, although it will be set there mostly, thats what I would expect from a game with the title as the legendary hall of the Norse Gods

Arthurian DLC is possible yeah, I'd be pretty surprised given that they have included stuff like Winchester (where 'the' Round Table is) and Stonehenge etc but dont include Englands most famous mythology in some fashion, either in the basegame or a DLC. We'll have to wait and see of course, fingers crossed for some Arthurian references and intertwining of the Arthurian mythology into the AC lore

Winchester is a rather iconic tbf without the need to rely on mythology, its probably the most important city in the land of this time period being the birthplace of England as we know it today et al :)

I'd be interested to see how they have woven stonehenge into the story line though.

Theres quite a lot of info about how the game plays now, theres no mention of England being anything other than a setting, the game seems to be totally about Viking lifestyle, raid, settle, etc. I wouldnt expect Stonehenge to be anything other than a location in the game, probably got Isu armour buried beneath it if anything. its kind of summarised as assault castles, repair kingdoms, create alliances and go on raids, not so much as explore Englands mythology, just simply explore 9th century England as you go about your story.
My feeling is that first dlc will be something like raid Paris

I still wouldnt be surprised, take this info for instance...

Assassins Creed Valhalla will feature fictional enemies and beasts from English myths and tales. This is not something brand new for the series, as some of the latest installments featured legendary mythical creatures and gods drawn from other traditions as well.

Starting as a historically accurate stealth franchise (as much as possible in video games), Assassins Creed evolved into an action-packed fantasy series, going as far as portraying ancient Greek and Egyptian gods along with creatures taken straight out of myths. Whether it proved to be the right direction for the franchise or the wrong one is debated by fans, but either way, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will also be infused with fantasy elements from both English and Norse Mythology.

According to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s narrative director Darby McDevitt, the 9th-century England present in the game will be enriched with various mythical elements that have already been featured in previous videos and gameplay demos. Even the initial reveal trailer had a glimpse of Odin, the elder god in Norse mythology. But since the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla mostly take place on the shores of the British Isles, local fantasy creatures will also be featured in the narrative. For instance, players will meet the Black Shuck, a monstrous black dog from East Anglian folklore. The exact origin of the creature is lost in time, although it is often referred to as a devilish beast, and players will be able to encounter and fight it in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

If thats true and no reason to think not, then its possible that English mythology will be involved in some fashion. Time constraints shouldnt be too much of an issue, especially as we already know that Beowulf will feature in AC Valhalla in some way and thats from around 200 years before the game is set.

Hopefully. I’ll upgrade for the next one.
Isn’t the next one on a new engine? I could be making that up.

I think so yea, I remember the devs saying that this was the last AC to use this engine, which I guess you could read as either This is the last AC, or The next AC will have a new engine :)

Yeah, this will probably be the last outing for AnvilNext 2.0 which debuted with Unity. This is the last (cross) gen title so the next AC game will get AnvilNext 3.0 for the first next-gen game.

A few pieces of artistic licence in that, I think most of us expected there to be some vertical "licencing" going on, in order to give more height. 1:12 for example in the video, if thats Stonehenge then Salisbury Plains seem to have become oddly hilly immediately around the henge but as I say, AC games have always had a vertical element so they have to be somewhat creative with the Z axis. In terms of character models/facial animations, you can clearly see that its the last game using this engine before the new engine comes in. Nice atmosphere though and despite the aging engine, a good degree of detail.

Given the leap of the last engine to this one, I look forward to the next.

Totally agree, when you consider just how Screensaver/Desktop Background worthy some of the screenshots from AC Origins and Odyssey are, the next engine could be staggering. Especially with the capabilities of the new graphics cards around too.

I quite like these newer Assassins Creed games, though I though Origins was much better than Odyssey.

Will Uplay+ have Valhalla on day 1, or do they wait a while to get some sales first? I'm also quite interested in Immortals Fenyx Rising and Watch Dogs Legion (mainly out of curiosity).

Money's a little tight at the moment so Uplay+ sounds like a no-brainer for me, if the games are there.
