Assassin's Creed Valhalla

So are people not liking the actual game or is it just that it’s horribly optimised and buggy?

I think some additions are interesting, story is ok but the biggest turn off for me is the combat, see my previous posts on it but it's floaty, lacks weight/impact which is a big issue in a combat heavy game. I thought odyssey took a step back from origins in feeling lightweight but this has gone even further. Pretty big thread on it on reddit:

Would be much appreciated if I can get some feedback from someone with a similar set up. I didn’t have an SLI set up when playing the previous games so I didn’t actually know about the previous incompatibility with SLI!
SLI hasn't been available in AC for quite a few games now suspect since Origins released back in 2017 so I wouldn't expect it to work now, SLI is largely dead tech so would get use to it on most new game releases.

I'm loving it, yes it's more of the same in a different setting, and it took a good 10+hrs to finally pull me in.

I don't really take to single player games I prefer MP or MMo but this and the previous two Ass Creed's have kept me coming back.

It's polished, runs really well I've had two CTD's but I am running reshade.

With Godfall out tomorrow I'm interested to see which I'll be playing more of (If Godfall doesn't suck :p)

It's Odyssey with a Viking skin, a few new game mechanics, and a bunch of performance issues.

If you enjoyed Odyssey and fancy more of the same, you'll enjoy it. And the bugs will no doubt be fixed in a week or so.

Yep, I'm absolutely loving it too. I'm about 10 hours in and agree it takes a while to get going. I focused on the main story in Norway, didn't really do any exploring and got to England pretty quick but now I'm taking my time to explore the map.

I'm finding the Mysteries(blue dots on the map) are the most fun so far. They are mostly puzzles and obscure little side quests but I've not found 2 the same yet so pretty impressed with the variety so far.
Also enjoy the village raids and enjoy finding all the treasures.

The combat feels fine to me and it gets way better once you find and unlock the abilities from skill books.

Not come across any boss fights yet but looking at the map legend there seem to be legendary animals to hunt down(similar to Read Dead?) so i'm keeping an eye out for those.

Also noticed there's a Mercenary system like in Odyssey but only found one Knight riding around so far.
I made the mistake of raiding a village that has a recommended power level of 160 (im currently lvl 25 ish). I got my ass kicked pretty kick. :)

I honestly think I'm going to be putting hundreds of hours into this. There's so much to do and the scenery is stunning.
Yes, it has some bugs but its only a matter of time before these get fixed and I've not had anything majorly game breaking.

Very impressed so far.

I'm liking the game, I dont think its as good as Origins or Odyssey (at least not yet) but I do think its a good game. Its performance is iffy, its buggy and its janky in places but I still think its a good game, but do bear in mind that I loved Origins and Odyssey and many people dont (especially the people who just dislike Ubisoft for the sake of disliking Ubisoft, or have a chip on their shoulder that the AC games arent AC games anymore. Those people will never like Valhalla even if it was a 10/10 game). I would say if you liked Origins and Odyssey, you'll probably like Valhalla and if you didnt like Origins and Odyssey then there is nothing in Valhalla which will make you like it either.

I will say that it took me much longer to click with Valhalla, I clicked with Origins and Odyssey in about 10 minutes but it was a good few hours before I really "got" Valhalla. As said above, the combat greatly improved once I got some skills and abilities and started stringing combos together

Skill up slated Valhalla in his video today. respect to him for putting 67 hours in to it - there's no way i'd bother.

Mind you he does also say he put 50 hours into Marvel Avengers...no idea how or even why anyone would put 10 hours into marvel avengers, let alone 50 hours. I question his sanity after that revelation :D

He's a reviewer that had to put in that amount of time to fairly review it given it was a GAAS game (incidentally I also put around 40 hours in avengers which I regret in hindsight, such a poor end product). He's pretty spot on with his review of Valhalla so far based on my own impressions after 15 hours.

I'm 13 hours into Valhalla and enjoying it, but I guess with all things what a person likes/dislikes is different. I mean a lot of people kept telling me that Odyssey was boring and repetitive but I thoroughly enjoyed it throughout (my game of the year) and put 110 hours into it, despite peoples protestations that it was boring. Different strokes and all that. Conversely everyone has raved to me about Hades this year, I managed about an hour in Hades before I refunded it because I thought it was junk.

I think thats why I couldnt be a reviewer, theres no way I would put 50 hours into a game that I dont like, life is just too short to waste time like that. Soon as I reach a decision that I dont like a game, I stop playing it and move on. Kudos for him for sticking 50 hours into Avengers for the sake of a review but not something I would do !

To me Ubisoft games always appear better looking in motion rather than stills.

Not sure if I want this or WD as they sound more of the exact same cookie cutter stuff as before... Hoping to grab a cheap key and then I will probs be happy.

3440x1440. This game doesnt look good imo

I think it looks good not great and not imo as good as Odyssey/Origins looked, definitely dont think it looks bad put it that way, this is my idea of bad graphics :D

Get ubisoft + like I did and try both. :D

This. Small cost and enables you to play both, plus Fenyx Rising next month and Far Cry 6 in a few months time (if either of those interest you)
