Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Since sorting out ubisoft+ and making it past the intro area of the game, I am enjoying this a lot. Didn't think I would as i've never really enjoyed the AC games but Norse mythology/Vikings always get me interested :)

I've had a go at it. Cuetscenes at 30fps, crushed blacks on OLED (WTF?), juddery, issues with volume cutting out, HDR a mess.

In think I'll leave it for a few weeks. :(

Needs some serious optimisation work. For the first time in a while I’ve contemplated just buying an Xbox/ps5 instead for my OLED. I think I’d rather that than she’ll out for a 3080 or 3080Ti/3090.

Will be keeping the 2080Ti a long while yet it seems for 1440p.

It's grown on me a bit more, still think the combat is poor and needs a proper rework in whatever is next for the series (hopefully takes some queues from Ghosts of T). It's still a bit by the numbers in some respects but I do like the random encounters and mysteries which seem to be a bit more varied, the main story is just meh. Also like that they brought back one hit assassinations with the little qte. One thing I hated about Odyssey and origins was the inability to assassinate targets if you were a lower level.

Combat is indeed so so, preferred last ones to be honest. Also no idea why, the default gamepad mappings I really hate. While you can remap things, end up with so many conflicts, they need to bring back the button mappings of last game, more so the alternate modes and I think that will solve most issues for me.

That said, found a warhammer earlier, thing is so over the top, 95% of the time knocks enemies down with one heavy attack and can follow up with the stomp attack, too easy :p

I know the recording quality isnt great so it doesnt really detail the issue.

I feel like the water is running at a lower res or something, its really really odd. The pop in is quite bad too. Is this really the standard now ?

Odyssey got away with it and it suited a bit more, but the combat needs a lot more weight to it this time round.

Yep,
https://ibb.co/F45F3cg The hardest i beleive. I have 90% of the HUD off too

Think you're on normal combat difficulty but I'm on hard and have seen some instances of braindead ai though it seems to be a bit random. The Ai has never been particularly amazing in AC.

Talking of things brought back that are liked, I'm very happy to see those "other world" boss death scenes from Origins (which were missing in Odyssey) are back
