Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Now I'm stuck in a raid because there is a chest I can't open. The pc just keeps shouting 'give me a hand with this" as all the crew look on

I had the same issue on one chest and it was simply because I had climbed into the building and hadnt unlocked the doors so that the crew were unable to get in. Though if you have the crew stood there looking on then thats a different kettle of fish, not had that issue

Yep,
Think you're on normal combat difficulty but I'm on hard and have seen some instances of braindead ai though it seems to be a bit random. The Ai has never been particularly amazing in AC.

I've yet to see any game have good AI, I mean lets be truly honest here, good AI would be an enemy seeing you slaughtering people and just run away completely, or good AI would be the enemy rounding up 5 or 6 friends, picking up bows or guns (whichever is applicable in the game being played) and all hanging back and just shooting you simultaneously, regardless of whether they had the bow/gun to start with or not. Good AI would be the enemy grabbing a civilian and using them as a body shield, or would be slicing the legs of your mount off to dismount you, or hiding behind a wall or object then have a friendly AI lead you past them and they leap out and slice your head off. Those are all good AI and I've never seen any game do any of that. Maybe one day.

Whilst true that very few games have truly great AI - Fear, Alien Isolation and Far cry during their times probably being the exceptions, the AC series has generally been on the lower rung of the scale of poor gaming Ai. It's not a massive issue as the game isn't really centred around amazing ai but it's hard to ignore sometimes.

This is why games like Cyberpunk get delayed a few times, they just won't release in a state like this.

God help them if they do, the hype bar Cyberpunk has set for itself is so far above the stratosphere that its already going to be slated by some people for not living up to what they perceived it was going to be, could you imagine what would happen if the much vaunted saviour of gaming, Cyberpunk, released with a multitude of bugs and issues? The internet would explode. :D

I'm in to it now.

Main problem is the combat is unenjoyable imo and the reason why is clear - on raids you have too many allies fighting the same npc. For example I go to hit someone but they get hit by one of my allies fist and usually stagger and go flying backwards meaning I miss or it just looks messy. I don't find raids enjoyable tbh.

I've had that happen a few times, I see what they've done, they've taken the conquest battles from Odyssey and tried to make them a little more dynamic, more interactive. It works in some respects, for example it really does feel like you are raiding, with guys going everywhere, burning and looting, but at the same time they do get in the way. Its an evolution of the Odyssey conquest battles, which imo works from an atmosphere point of view but doesnt work so well from a practical point of view. Luckily there arent too many raids compared to the bread and butter of the game and I do appreciate that they've attempted to evolve the conquest battles. Next time round I'm sure they will take what they've learned from Odyssey conquests and Valhalla raids and evolve it again into a happy medium.

Glad to have finally reached England after 10 hours in Norway. Totally snowblind, won't be hurrying back :-)

Enjoying it though, even if it badly needs another patch or three.

Im enjoying the game but the performance is pretty shoddy. I upgraded from a 2080ti to a 3090 and there was near to no difference in performance. Between this and Watchdogs legion, Ubisoft need to step their game up, im wondering what settings the ps5/xbox series x are to get 120hz/4k when i cant get anywhere near that on either card even at 1440p.

They don't do 4k 120Hz.

Only with Ori and other simpler games.

Certainly seems very demanding vs the actual appearance, for sure. Running those HW Unboxed optimal settings at 1440p and averaging 78fps in the benchmark, that's with a 5600x and a 3070.

Pretty sure the console versions are 60Hz.

While I'm not happy with the state of the game on release either, tbf to the developers they got it out on time. And it is playable. With the 'rona situation, so many studios haven't managed that. Legion, even after several delays, is an even bigger mess. Maybe they should have delayed both games to next year? But Q4 2020 would have looked a bit empty without them.

Dont know which engine Legion uses, but Ubisoft are stepping their game up in regard of AC, this game is the last AC game to use the now 6 year old, Anvil2 engine. The next AC title will be on the next engine. I think they've really pushed this 6yr old engine about as far as it can go, its on the verge of breaking point.

Crikey, could you imagine the Q4 2020 without them. No Legion, no AC, no Cyberpunk. What big title would we have had? Been a pretty barren year in all really for big games.

Also, Halo.

It doesn't help that Avengers turned out to be crap, Squadrons has ongoing issues, and Godfall has turned out "meh". Q4 looked overloaded at one point.
