Assetto Corsa

Im really enjoying this game at the moment, i cant help but think though that night racing would be a nice edition along with some sort of weather system. I know other games have night racing and rain etc so im assuming with this being a very good sim this may be come along some point?

Hopefully, yeah. Given that Project Cars does all that (I think it does night racing) and it's kind of the main competition , you'd think they would.

The cars do have working headlights after all... They can't just be there for show.
Then again, they'd also have to add wipers.

ED

Saying that, I get the feeling that Assetto is more focused on pure racing, so I dunno about weather implementation, though it would be cool as.
Night racing shouldn't be too hard seeing as they've got headlights and dawn/dusk daylight transitions already.

The best rain implementation in terms of physics (puddles, aquaplaning, and slippery in places but not ice) was imho in AC precursor that launched Kunos's association with Ferrari and generally established their rep -NKpro

But, they recently wrote on Facebook that after lots of desperate pleas from the sim community the rain feature turned out to be a "try out a few times and go back to dry" thing, and that it did take a huge amount of work to put in. So looks like they are not sure about rain this time round. As for pcars competition, well Grid has wet races as does NFS:Shift etc, and their implementation hardly matters. So it remains to be seen if pcars is actually competing for the same niche or if they are after Grid and TDU customers...(yes I've seen their paid prodrivers marketing, but hey Vettel promoted GT5;) sim racing forums are dismissing pcars for now. lets see what the release brings of course)
Good physics are not cheap, and crap rain physics would be out of place. I'd love to see AC rain for sure.

Night races I cant stand, so certainly hope they skip them for something else lol :D

15th isn't it? or so iv been reading around.

Either way I cant wait.

Oh nooo :)

:D http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/possible-source-of-csp-load-cells.284795/

Fanatec Clubsport Pedals use a load cell on the brake.
Mine died a while back and I ordered these about a month ago, so have been using a pad on Assetto for a while :(

If I decide to get a home cockpit, I'll definitely get fanatec pedals - 50kg brake force, wow :)

Yeah, I have to say that rain and night racing is more for the spectacle of it, and of course it looks really nice in videos.

Saying that, doing an accelerated time Nurb 24hr over a couple of hours with full day/night transition is bloody awesome and a real challenge. One of the few things I liked in GT5.
Would love to see something like that in Assetto.

Not fussed about rain. It just makes it an unpredictable pita for me, but I can see the appeal.

Definitely grab some Fanatec pedals if you do get a cockpit :) Hell, you don't *need* a cockpit, a wheelstand pro will do a fine job until you decide to go nuts :D
Load cell braking really does make a difference in terms of consistency.

It would be fantastic if they put in the night racing. The rain would be a very nice addition but i do agree on it being just 'appealing' but could possibly become a pita. Rain and drifting would be very fun though! I do feel it would add more realism for 24hour races. I think there are endless possibilities for this game and im looking forward to future developments.

I'll have a look at some wheelstands, thanks! Not sure if it will be enough for 50kg force (the sofa will move away or the stand will surely), but maybe I'll get one for my g27 at least.

As for night races- I'm not convinced, challenge- certainly, but I like my scenery :) I'd rather have rain if anything - you can drift, and generally it's like a different game, more twitchy, more sensitive, makes you a better driver in the dry too. But I could live without either, just give me more cars, tracks and a career mode. If choosing between rain some time next year or Nurb+Prosche , Nissan, McLaren, toyota DLC in the next few months , I'd choose the latter every time.

Scenery is a major part of racing games for me as well but i think if they pulled the night racing off well enough then they could still use the scenery to an extent. An example would be abu dhabi, with the lights being so bright they illuminate the place and still give you good visuals of the place. The nurburgring 24 hours though would be very challenging and i dont think you would even be considering the scenery for making sure you dont crash!

I use a wheelstand pro just fine with mine :) You adjust the load cell to whatever level of braking force you're comfortable with. At full whack, you have to push damn hard on there to get any real braking done, so don't worry about the 50Kg thing unless you're a stamper :D

As for night racing around the nurb, you obviously have to know the track intimately and it does help if you've got some brake lights ahead of you.
The atmosphere is unreal, especially when you get the break of dawn or when the sun's going down.
Serious challenge though, not gonna lie...

Oh, and moar cars/tracks are always welcome.

I remember seeing a drivers eye view on the channel /Drive of a driver doing a lap at night whilst it was raining. It looked very hard and really shows how much skill it would take.

More cars and tracks would be great!

I've tried night racing several times (in games of course lol) and I fully agree about intimate knowledge of the track etc, but I am hardly pushing the limit even at day time, so night time is just too soon for my poor driving :) Sunsets and sunrises are in already though as is the dynamic day cycle http://www.simracing.su/uploads/posts/2013-11/1384079838_assetto_corsa_sunset-1.jpg, it is only at night that AC drivers stop and go for a nap :)

Thanks on the wheelstand advice, I 'll have a look at some reviews tomorrow. 50kg I think is realistic in a F3 car, apparently they push upto 100kg ;) I prefer road cars so I dont mind either way. But I do like drifting and wheel stand will have to be stable enough for that.

Yeah, sunrise/sunset is there, but it's not quite the same as a transition from night/day.
Gt5 also had a lovely misty effect going on at dawn at the 'ring too. Would love to see something like that.

If you want ultimate realism with the stamping on the brake thing like in formula series, you may find it gets a little exhausting :D
A G27 should be ok with drifting on the stand, though something like a T500 with high ffb settings may be pushing it slightly.
You'd probably be surprised at how sturdy they are. I was, and I had similar doubts before I got it :)

Anyone else having crossfire issues on latest build. I get an instant hang and have to hard reboot with it enabled but its all happy days on a single card

Dear Assetto Corsa fans

We know that in the last few weeks we have been very silent, but there was a valid reason; all our resources and everybody in the dev team have been working real hard in order to finish Assetto Corsa and to prepare a preview Release Candidate version to journalists from all around the world. On September 29, we organized an exclusive event at Kunos Simulazioni headquarters inside "Autodromo di Vallelunga". Over 130 journalists have participated in our event, organized with the precious collaboration of Fanatec, NVIDIA, rSEAT, RSR-Nurburg, Media consultants and Ibuz.com. At the end of the scheduled press conference, during which we illustrated all Assetto Corsa features and the complex development process, our guests got the opportunity to try the release candidate preview of Assetto Corsa in 4 simulators with the latest Fanatec Clubsport Wheel V.2. Additionally, guests could try an amazing rSEAT RS1 M4A Full motion simulator, Fanatec Clubsport Wheel V.2 and pedals and Oculus Rift SDK2 . So yes, we know you've been waiting for it, Assetto Corsa supports Oculus SDK2!
We could have ended the day there and it would have been a cool typical videogame presentation, but you know we breath motorsport and so we wanted a much more immersive experience for our guests. At the Vallelunga circuit pitlane, 15 real Sportcars that are also included in Assetto Corsa, were available for test drive! We wanted to demonstrate and let our guests compare the fidelity of our simulator with a direct comparison to reality. We will soon post footage, photos and more info about the event, but first let us share with you the info about Assetto Corsa.

First of all, let us thank you for the incredible support we got to this amazing project and to our software house, by participating in the Early Access program. Lot's of you have been following this project and our work for a little bit less than a year and probably do not know that when we decided to create and announce Assetto Corsa in 2011, we were thinking to include in version 1.0, a total amount of 15 cars and 3 to 4 italian circuits. Today, Assetto Corsa 1.0 includes circuits like Monza, NurburgringGP, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and more. All of them created with the use of Laserscan technology. It also includes incredible cars, produced by the likes of Ferrari, McLaren, Pagani, Mercedes, BMW, Alfa Romeo and much more.
Even more circuits and cars are under development and will be released after version1.0 of Assetto Corsa. Lot's of those new contents will be free add-ons! This is our way to say thank you for the support you have given us.
Grazie!

Assetto Corsa Release Candidate will be published in the following days. We're working with the feedback of our internal beta-testing team, in order to iron out bugs and improve features. The Release Candidate version has substantial differences from the current Steam Early Access version. New features and improvements to the graphics engine, a brand new sound engine based on FMOD Studio that guarantees more immersion, reverb effects and the ability to control a whole new series of additional effects. A complete remake of all the sounds of every single car has been necessary; an incredible amount of work for our sound engineer.

Some of the features of the new graphics engine, have been already included in the early access build release at the end of the summer. The fantastic videos and screenshots released by the community have shown the a great appreciation of the new engine, but the best is yet to come. Assetto Corsa v1.0 will include heat shimmering, lens flare, God-rays, depth of field improvements, FXAA, tone mapping and more. Every single post processing effect can be activated from the graphics options in order to give you the freedom to configure Assetto Corsa to your specific needs, both in terms of visual quality and performance scalability. Assetto Corsa guarantees adequate frame rate performances, from the most powerful PCs, to the minimum requested hardware configuration. As a matter of fact, the new release also includes support for 4K resolution, static reflections for low performance PCs, dust and dirt on cars, improved smoke and particles, new pilot 3D model that is more detailed and realistic, and collidable objects on circuits.

Assetto Corsa Release Candidate also includes damage to the car bodies, wings, suspensions, engine, gearbox and tyres. Tyres in particular can now simulate blistering, graining, flat spots and blow ups. Because of all these simulated damages and your always important requests, we work hard to include a feature that we are sure will make everybody excited. Pitstops! We have implemented pitstops with animated cinematic pitcrew. Assetto Corsa v1.0 pitstops implementation will support only multiplayer races, but we're working hard to include single player pitstops in one of our next free updates. The delay on the single player implementation, is caused by the need to define and balance the AI pitstop strategy during races.

Assetto Corsa v1.0 is not the end of the journey. More contents and features are being developed and we will inform you about them in the following days. In the mean time, here is the list of the new contents that you will find in Assetto Corsa Release Candidate:
The Lotus 2-11 GT4 and Lotus Exige S, as well as a unique version of the Evora GTE featuring all body panels made entirely of carbonfibre and substantial weight savings.
The much anticipated Ferrari 458 GT2 and Mercedes-Benz SLS GT3.
Ferrari LaFerrari which includes in Assetto Corsa a very advanced simulation of hybrid systems.
Silverstone National and the legendary SPA-Francorchamps recreated in extreme detail using Laserscan technology.
A surprise new entry that also showcases the close connection of Assetto Corsa dev team with the community. We're extremely happy to announce the Carroll-Shelby Cobra 427SC as an official licensed content.
We had plans to include this car in our officially licensed content, but we were surprised and impressed by the work of a great modder that published some amazing screenshots of his work. His mod has took the community by storm and has been highly appraised by everybody. This convinced us that we had to do something about it. We contacted Carrol-Shelby and got the official license and at the same time we worked with the modder and acquired his work. So here it is, the Shelby Cobra 427SC as a free bonus content for Assetto Corsa 1.0. Obviously the already graet physics have been re-implemented, the graphics and sound assets have been updated and are now completely compatible with Assetto Corsa new graphics and sound engine.
We think this is a great tribute to the modder's outstanding work and a compliment and appreciation to the work of the hundreds of modders that are actively supporting Assetto Corsa.

Please enjoy some in-game screenshots directly from the Release Candidate that will be published as soon as possible.
Again, thank you for the great support!

Bought this in the Steam Sale over the summer and absolutely loving it!

A bit late to the party compared to the very early adopters but still massively excited about RC 1.0, looks like they have been working 25 hour days to get this to where it is at the moment. Great achievement for such a small team.

Also congrats to 'the_meco' whose frankly amazing Shelby Cobra is being officially licensed in the game with minor tweaks from Kunos.

Can't wait until it's released! :D

Gt5 also had a lovely misty effect going on at dawn at the 'ring too. Would love to see something like that.

Mist would be awesome! And thanks for the wheel stand advice, started looking for one :)
Just purchased this. Is there any adding, settings etc. That I need to improve the experience? Looking forward to giving it a blast tonight.

There are a few great mods like the AC Cobra and Top Gear track etc, but the game has a lot to offer without them.

Just dont use FXAA it ruins the picture quality, that's the only tip.
