Assetto Corsa

carry the car around without skidding, loosing grip,

To drive faster you do need to skid- just not too much and not too little (about 10 degrees). Otherwise you're not using tires to their full.

That is the car I'm using with all driving aids off, except auto shift and throttle and blip to try and learn or at least be slightly competitive. At my current rate when multiplayer is released I'll be staying in last position.:o

I am taking the ideal racing line, but on Monza 1966 I'm lapping 1:31.5(x) which is around 7 seconds of the top time.:(

I know that it's braking which is letting me down. I should start by approaching the corner slowly and finding what point I can get on the gas and how much I can give when I see the corner exit apex.

I'm just finding it difficult knowing:
1. Where I need to brake
2. How much pressure I need to apply to the brake to slow down as quickly as possible whilst carrying the "correct" speed into the corner and letting inertia/momentum carry the car around without skidding, loosing grip, melting the tyres.
3. Getting on the gas at the point that gives the best exit

It's all very technical and challenging. If I can get anywhere near 1.26-1.27 I'l be very happy.

Your last position will still be in front of me :D

I doubt it lol

Uploaded a video showing my nooby skills. :D

For some reason shadow play's default High recording setting records in 360p. When I uploaded to ewwtube that is the only video quality available. I probably did something wrong, as it's my first time using it. doh! :o

Skip to 1:50 to see the start of the lap.

Majnu - shows as 1080p here. Not watched the vid yet though - at work. Youtube takes some time to process the higher qualities so maybe you checked it before it finished :)

I think the MP4 is probably easier to drive in real life, than we think it is. There's an awful lot of modern electronics and other technologies from F1 keeping the car planted to the road.

Seen multiple reviews of the MP4 saying it is unbeleivably easy to drive. Think Chris Harris drives ones around Bristol in traffic and just says it's effortless on the road in addition to the track.

The MP4-12C GT3 is very easy to drive according to Chris Harris and his video is brilliant.

Mr hedgehog, can hijack the thread momentarily to ask you about the buttkicker, im interested in getting one and im concerned about whether or not those vibrations are heard the floor below? If so, do you use anything to dampen this, like a rubber floor mat or something?
From what i can tell you've bought the amp plus 4 of the mini lfe's? is the gamer2 likely to be sufficient or do i really need something similar, it doesnt look particularly cheap though, new at least.

They will vibrate your entire house if you don't get rubber isolations. A rubber floor mat will do nothing, I've tried it. These things are what people use:http://www.thebuttkicker.com/ri-4#

As you might know, in our recent poll we asked which car brands you would like to get in Assetto Corsa in future: we did it with the aim to drive our investment decisions in the right way. One of the most voted brands was RUF Automobile: so, we are really glad to announce that three RUF Automobile car models have been officially licensed for the racing game Assetto Corsa! More details will be revealed in future: meanwhile, enjoy the first wip images related to the development of the awesome CTR Yellowbird, one of the most wanted RUF cars.

thanks for that, i was initially thinking of using a soft rubber mat, or a foam yoga mat, cutting it into long inch wide strips and wrapping it around a few contact points expecting that to take all the vibration out.
the rubber feet 'look' pretty firm, like they wouldnt make much difference, but they could be soft enough to work i guess, i think i saw them on fleabay for sofa's etc, could well have been these.

Interesting reading what people think of the handling. I thought the car was like a shopping trolley with a broken wheel, so I need to adapt to this road car.

Active aero. The more you press the brake pedal, the more you raise the rear flaps and the more the rear end sits down. But if you're trying to trailbrake the car, the rear flaps go down and the aero moves into the front and makes the rear end "light". You need to learn to use the active aero to your advantage.

Example: go flat at the downkink turn before rivazza braking and even if you feel the rear end stepping out, just put your foot down on the brakes and drive the car around. You'll see it will stabilize itself. Just keep your foot at 100% braking.

Nice vid of Huayra's aero action, apparently, during turns it also works kinda like ailerons on airplane :)

anyone who uses the X360 controller, can you post your controller set ups? I'm really struggling to get it set up properly. So much so that i'm struggling to even get cars to get around corners. Not played in a good few weeks as a result of this so any help would be appreciated. Even tried setups from the AC forums with no luck, plus default

I cant be the only one who's getting a little tired of the exact same cars featuring in the same old sims? i definitely dont want exclusive lockouts, but its always the exact same cars, it'd be nice if buying 2 games got you twice the content, not just the exact same stuff with a different game engine :(
Both have to go out and get these licenses and pay for them, and yet they're not adding anything the others already have or will 3 months after you do. Where is the variation, there are hundreds of manufacturers, with tons of models, and yet theres very few cars which AC has which pCARS doesnt, thank goodness for their Italian ties though.
I hope this trend doesnt keep happening though, and preferably AC getting all the better stuff :D

Even though these cars are welcomed I expected more variety from manufacturers in the far East.

None of the setups in this thread worked for you?

Porsche looks awesome :D
Yeh I'd like to see a bit of variation in cars, but let's face it - the majority of the ones in the game are what people want to drive in. Everyone will want to drive things like an F40, but I've never seen anyone going "oh I've always wanted to drive a Ferrari Mondial!

I'd love to see some TVRs, Cerbera / Griffith 500 :D Then maybe the speed 12 just for spinning in circles!

Will have a good play later once the missus' has gone to Uni and see if i can get one that works. Think I've found one that sort of works at the moment but definitely room for improvement.

EDIT: Thanks for linking that though :)
