Astra VXR

I think i'll be best taking this thread to a owners club forum where i will get some factual answers, rather than personal opinions about people who hate the car. Thanks for every ones input :)

You will not get an objective answer within an owners club forum. You will here, and you have it above. The car is not a good one.

Seriously, every thread where a vauxhall is mentioned, the word "hate" follows soon after, its uncanny

You just don't seem open to sensible suggestions and logic, if you want to be close minded and just want facts then an owners club is definitely the best place to ask

Maybe you should ask yourself why so many people hate the car?

Is it because it's an amazing car and the people who hate it are just upset they cannot afford one?

Or is it because of something else...

This is a question you really ought to think about.

Thanks for every ones input :)

What, even mine?

You might get opinions from people who've actually owned and driven the vehicle over a long period so it might just help.

But the fact they've owned them usually removes the objectivity from the point they are making. You'll get factual information about reliability, sure. But all you'll get from them about the car versus other cars is how much better it is. Or they'd not have bought it.

That's what I said, its the best place to ask.

However, opinions will be biased, as per all vehicle or manufacturer specific forums

Agreed, but you'll also find that not everyone is as blinkered as you think and that they are able to point out the cars shortfalls in certain areas.

People who have owned a car will know the problems they have, and because its an owners club, they are all willing to share it with other owners. Its the ideal place to find real world information about a car. I was just hoping the few members on here would be able to give me some information to save me from registering on a forum for a car i might not even end up owning. In hindsight, i should have expected the results i got from this thread. This isn't an owners club so theres going to be a large amount of people on here that don't like the car. People don't refrain on here from expressing there opinions, asked or not. Its annoying at times, but my own fault for forgetting once again. Fox, one question, do you act this way in real life too?

If you want specific information about a specific car, there are a million better places to get it. If you good advice and honest opinions, ask here.

To be fair, the OP did say "I know a few regulars on here own one and was after a bit of advice", so he's asking for a real world response from people on a forum he obviously frequents. Offering other suggestions is fine, but he's clearly very keen on the VXR for whatever reason that might be. As usual, Fox and others are derailing the thread to push their own opinionated views on him, rather than just accepting that he likes the VXR.

It's a modern car. There are certain to be other cars out there which are better, but it's highly unlikely that he'll notice anything other than the interior for 99.9% of the time he's driving it. The chances of him fully exploring the limits of its performance on UK roads to the extent that he thinks "I wish I'd got the Focus ST as it would have been 0.8 seconds quicker on that roundabout" are remote to say the least. Even the Citroen AX GT I had about 10 years ago would go quicker round a dry roundabout without understeer on 165 tyres than I felt comfortable pushing it. A modern car on 225s or whatever will surely be far better still.

Indeed, and that is what he is actually after as per the original post. :)

Fox, one question, do you act this way in real life too?

What, give up my time to offer people advice in the hope they get the best possible car for the money? Absolutely. It's like a public service!

Do you act your way in real life as well? You must look pretty odd shouting I KNOW BEST at people giving you advice in good faith, so I guess not.

Hows the trashed C2? Bet you wished you'd asked for some common sense advice on parking, eh!

As usual, Fox and others are derailing the thread

Talking about the VXR in a thread about a VXR is not thread derailing.

Talking about ironing boards and holidays in Spain in a thread about a VXR is thread derailing.

Hopefully this will help you identify thread derailments in future.

It's not as if the styling snaps knicker elastic at 10 paces or is the sort of thing you'd hang a poster on your wall, is it?

come on fox, surely you know that plenty of people will have them on their wall, be it hardened owners club members to max power fans. And just because you don't think it will make females impressed doesn't mean it actually won't. Plenty of women would be impressed, just not the sort that you would like.

They'd probably be equally impressed with something like an ST or an R26, and the driver would be more impressed with the drive, too.

No seriously, im curious, would you walk up to me at a meet, bare in mind this would be the first time you've met me, and then mock me over the fact my car just got written off?

Could you possibly miss the point any more than you just did?

My first reply about your car being written off contained no mocking at all. I said I felt for you as you liked the car, and then mentioned where it was parked.

The mocking started only when it became abundantly clear that not only could you see nothing wrong with where you parked, you also felt totally wronged and that it was a totally great place to park. That just made it amusing.

So, if I met you at a meet, you said your car had been written off, I said 'oops, maybe not a great place to park' and you said 'BUT I LIVE THERE OMG', then yea, I probably would :p

You are being mocked for your attitude not the fact your car got written off.
