** ASUS DO IT AGAIN: IPS, 144Hz & FREESYNC!!! Asus MG279Q thread **

What with the latest Acer GSync monitor getting some shoddy reviews (backlight bleed, dead/stuck pixels etc) I'm a tad worried about buying a monitor for this much now. Tempted to cancel my order and wait until others get theirs...

I know we have them available right now from 1 of the retailer here in Denmark.. which is a big surprise to me as we usually ain't among the first due to the country size.

Any reviews available there? You'd think there would be at least one if they were available.

Hi All,

I am having some trouble deciding on a new monitor for my new titan x rig. Naturally I was drawn to the rog swift and the new acer xb270hu but seeing the dramatic issues people seem to be having with both I am quite wary about going for either. I was wondering if people think Gsync is a significant enough feature when running a titan x at 1440p or if this monitor despite it being freesync would still offer a great gaming experience considering it’s a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than the acer and comes with a more reliable asus warranty and generally better build quality, whilst also offering IPS over the swifts TN?

Thanks in advance

If ocuk find that to be within acceptable levels then it means you have to return the monitor under CCR or whatever the new term is but this will be at your own cost and you will have to arrange the shipping/courier yourself too, which can be a right faff and expensive if you have to do it more than once. Also, if you go down the CCR route, you have to wait until you get your refund (or you could just go ahead with another order if you don't mind a sizeable lump sum missing from your account :p). Where as if it is just a RMA (under 14 days), ocuk arrange for dpd to collect the monitor, test it themselves and if they decide that isn't acceptable, then they send a new monitor out straight away so you don't have to wait around for 3+ days. If it is over 14 days, then they try to repair the monitor first.

For Samsung the backlight uniformity is guaranteed at 90% and LG guarantees only a circle of 2" radius in the centre which is crap.
Anything else and there's no specification for what defines a fault due to backlight bleed so it's OCUK's word against yours.

Well ocuk took my first 2 lg 29um65 back as faulty

Thankfully people have ccr so they don't even need to give a reason for returning under 14 days.

I have one of these on pre-order and will be running on a 980. I'll post (layman's) opinions when it comes through and is setup.

Might help you a little bit

Thank you that would be great - just interested in how vital the Gsync element is considering the premium for it

Someone correct me if wrong, but as I understand it any issues from a lack of Gsync would be far more apparent on my 980 than your titanx. As the adaptive sync (G/Free) only needs to kick in when the GPU is stressed and can't keep up with static monitor refresh rate.

I am unwilling to pay the Gsync premium, but desperately need a new monitor. So its thus one on a 980 until the next gen AMD's are out in a few weeks/months.

Just wanted to let you know, I've now had it confirmed that the ASUS MG279Q can enable both FreeSync and Overdrive (TraceFree) at the same time.

Jim, On Sweclockers somebody has shown that freesync only works between 35 and 90hz on this monitor.

Can you confirm this? Because if it only works in that range it will be a disaster. Who would buy it?

^ That's VERY worrying. If I don't get confirmation before Wednesday can see me cancelling and waiting. And I see the date has been pushed back a few days to the 8th. This mean it's now definite?

I just read the Sweclockers report, came here as I figured you all would've seen it too.

I'm making enquiries now.

Thanks Jim. It's not looking good though, see the post below :(

this Asus support page also says the same thing: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1011625/

Good find Badass. Why can't anyone get these freesync monitors right at launch? I was really looking forward to buying a freesync monitor but now I am going to forget about it and upgrade to a superwide instead.

I expected better from Asus and BenQ as they are two of the premium brands in Monitor manufacturing. It looks to me like adaptive sync hardware is not ready yet for general release.
