Asus MW221U 22" Ghosting in games.

I've found an alternative to fraps so might try and record some video in STALKER of the major ghosting.

Plus still no reply from Vasco. Perhaps we should make a major complaint to Trading Standards.

I think that's the only logical step you can really take at this point. Or you could your retailer in contact with Asus and just say that the monitor has issues.

Does anyone else find it odd that a major pc hardware company can't seem to test their own products? How is it that all of us can easily do what they seem to find impossible? It's an insult to our inteligence when they say they can't see ghosting.

How many different processes do we have to come up with to have ASUS test their own product to see this problem? Why is it that each one of them is said to not work or can't be seen by ASUS? Their excuses are really getting to be ridiculous and laughable. What kind of tech person does not know how to test for ghosting? I'm no rocket scientist, yet it was very easy for me.

I think it's time that we take a legal approach to this issue, as it looks like ASUS does not want to fix this obvious product defect and false advertising.

Because Asus have sold how many of these monitors? If they brought out a fix for it and the monitors needed to be RMA'd they'd have hell on their hands. They're a business and telling the truth is bad for business.

Hi again,

Can i ask you one more time to check the page before i forward to ASUS,
I have been playing around with the colors and now i do believe anyone should be able to see the ghosting.

Now Yellow ghosting is been show when the box are moving, if you move move the whole window, you can get even more ghosting, and this is exactly the same kind of yellowish image i got when playing FPS.

http://www.zen24223.zen.co.uk/asus.htm

Thanks again for testing. 8)

EDIT:

Not sure if I'm talking rubbish here, but now that i can see the ghosting i decided to play a little with the colors:
I see a lot of nasty yellow when using these settings:

Monitor:
Brightness 60
Contrast 50
Sharpness 0
Saturation 51

Nvidia control panel:
Brigthness 50%
Digital Vibrance 0%
Contrast 50%
Image sharpening None
Gamma 9%

But, changing the contrast from the nvidia cpl, the nasty stuff disappear.
Setting the contrast to 52 there is NO ghost at all, moving it to <51 i get the ugly yellow images.

Maybe this could be the reason why ASUS can't see the problem, and some people thinks their monitor are fine.
Not sure if this setting will works with different background/color but at least it helps 8)

Cheers.

I think the black makes the ghosting really stand out. I'd think that if this was a simple change of some settings then it maybe why some do not see it. However, dont we all start off with the same default settings? It's not until we test the monitor the nchange them to our own preferences.

Hmm my contrast is 50 and shows same ghosting at 50 and 56 contrast with OD on.

No trails (my does not show ghosting ahead as far as I see atm) present with OD off.

My asus contact passed the boxes link onto RD as I assume he now sees what we are talking about. He now is now on hols so I cannot pass on anything till he returns. His out of office reply is in Chinese so unknown return date.

Mook see the ghosting as infront as well trailing in your clip. No ghosting with OD off. Will pass clip onto asus maybe someone can do same with the UK contact.

PS when I run clip on fast i see some ghosting even with OD off.

I tested the clip yesterday, and to I've never seen that kind of ghosting on my monitor, maybe is my settings.
What i get while gaming is a complete yellow shadow when and object moves in front of a black background. This is the reason why i changed the colors in the web page, to show the kind of ghost that I'm seeing, and with the last version, i see more ghosting with the page than when I'm playing.

If i drag the window and moving around, i can see a constant half centimeter yellow shadow around the boxes,
that must be noticeable by anyone, even without the need of switching OD on and off.

Changing the contrast in the cpl, did remove the ghost for the web page, but i still can see ghost while playing, so as i thought the adjustment in contrast only affected particular color combinations which is a shame.

Whats the point of a swap if they are still testing a new firmware and don't know for sure if it works?

Just as I post ^that a reply Vasco:

'Dear Mr Mook,

Firstly my apologies on the late reply, but I have been away ill for some days.

A solution has been achieved and we should be in contact with you soon to go forward with the arrangements.

Best regards'

He's always so polite he makes me feel guilty for being arse, despite them being in the wrong. Fingers crossed this fix works though.

Very nice! i hope it's a REAL fix and not some change that takes away from what we've paid for.

Can't wait to hear the results.

I asked my friend who owns an NEC LCD he just bought to view the ghost test page. He's a very picky person, and has a high level of pc knowledge.

He said he can not see ghosting on the moving blocks. When he turned his room lights off, and looks very closely, he can see some slight ghosting. But that's it. No input lag on the monitor.

He bought another monitor for a firend and will test that one aswell for us. It's the Sammy 226bw.

MOOK:
Did Vasco say it does eliminate the problem? That the monitor now performs as advertised? Will the issue of OD resetting to on when we power off then back on monitor be fixed as well? I'm guessing what you posted was all he said, but doesnt hurt to ask.

I'm gonna let someone else test this fix this time, the courier that keeps on turning up to collect my monitor has been so many times he is on 1st name terms with my wife... I'm getting worried now ;-)
