Asus P5Q-E (P45) Motherboard Review

Yeah the cooling and the 16 phase power are the only real benefits of the Deluxe.

Hard to say if the Deluxe is worth the extra money tbh, but I'm more than happy with mine.

Hmmm it does look like the business and looking around I can see prices vary wildly so if I can get a better deal on the deluxe I may plump for that and go and actually enjoy my saturday instead of sitting here reading dozens of reviews! :o

How long has the P45 been on general release then?

I'm liking the die shrink on the northbridge + the PCI-E 2.0 slots.

Does a 16-phase set-up offer any power-savings over 8-phase? I understand a 16 phase board will run a bit cooler but not sure if that means it will also use a little less juice?

P45 has been out for 6 or 7 weeks now, initally with the MSI boards for a good few days before the ASUS and Gigabyte range appeared. I'll have my P5Q-D 4 weeks on Tuesday.

If anything 16 phase will get a CPU stable on lower voltage than 8 phase, tho any power saving benefits are probably very small.

Have you left the heatsink combo on the North and Southbridges or removed and watercooled Cob?

I've left it on, with a 80mm fan propped up against the NB and the little ASUS fan clipped to the MOSFET cooler.

Yeah it runs quite cool, but I'm running a quad-core at near 500mhz FSB with lots of NB voltage.

I think I'm gonna order this within the next 30mins, done a few reviews and can't see any real issues, kinda would have been nice to have WIFI but it's not a deal breaker by any means, as long as its clocks as good as P35 then I will be happy, if it clocks better then thats a bonus!

And a TRUE heatsink fits no problem?

I've got it Prime95 stable at 500x8, but it Folds 24/7 at 488x8 with 1.42v under load.

Tho vcore means very little as the chipset voltages are the main players in this combo.

Right just about to order lol! :D

One last thing that is running through my mind, as I'm spending more than £100 on a P45 I can kinda in the pricerange of various X38 and X48 chipset mobos (give or take £30-£40 quids)

I'm 99.9% sure I wont be using a dual graphics set-up so would there be any difference between a single card solution running across these three chipsets?

I think the answer is no but would just like to check so thanks in advance! :)

X38 and X48 offer nothing extra with a single card. P45 will however offer a little more CPU mhz over them both.

Which CPU are you going for?

By then you should be able to pick up a Q9550 for the same money, or a 6mb Q9400 for the same money as the Q9300 is going for these days.

I did see some early results from C0 stepping Yorkies and yeah you helped me make my kind up, my wallet thanks you!

I'll be fine with the E6300 for setting everything up and then I will sell everything in my home thats not nailed down in preperation for my first quad core purchase!

How long do I have before those new steppings hit?

20th July and 10th August are the two dates to note. Can't remember off the top of my head what's happening on each, but they'll be a mixture of price drops and introduction/killing of SKU's.
