Asus P5Q-E (P45) Motherboard Review

Cool, I don't think either the Q9300/Q9400 will be getting bought by me but the Q9550 sounds interesting?

Hopefully the lower Q9450 will get a sub £200 price drop? whadaya reckon? If it clocks anywhere near as good as yours I will be baking a cake!

Lol still didn't order the mobo yet, now pawing over the Samsung F1 1TB drives . . .. grrrrr ;)

[edit] Anyway back on topic, the Asus P5Q Deluxe sounds like a very sweet mobo and I shall buy it now!

The Q9450 will drop a little bit before the Q9550 is lowered, but I wouldn't expect any more than £20-£30. The aim of its drop will be to clear out any remaining stock before the Q9550 takes its place.

But ofcourse that's all speculation as the Q9450 and Q9300 do not appear in any price lists from next month onwards.

Oh I see . . . I didn't realise they were scrapping the Q9450? I thought there were giving it a new stepping and also releasing the Q9550?

Flippen heck that's a short lifespan?

Still old or new stepping aside, if the Q9450 does indeed clock above 3.6GHz and can be had for a good price then maybe that's where my money will go?

Well anyway that's me sorted!

Another question:

-Would a azunetech prelude soundcard fit into the top PCI slot?

-Could anyone measure the distance from the back of that PCI connector to the RAM slots if no one knows.

Thanks!

Nice One KelticDaz!

We can be P45 nOOblets together! :o

I feel the P35 mobo I am using has plenty of life left in it but due to buying an OEM Vista x64 I felt I should upgrade chipset before installing to save myself any hassle. Apart from that I am actually thinking the PCI-E 2.0 spec graphic port may come in handy in several months, lets see!

If anyone sees me upgrading motherboard within the next year give me a slap pls, I want 12 months at least from this new chipset! :p

Had this for a couple of weeks, great motherboard, only gripe was how tight it was fitting an Artic Freezer 7 in, bent a couple of the heatsink fins on the NB, oh well
Oh and to anyone buying this i recommend getting latest bios, it only says its changed some temperature readings, but ive noticed it running a lot smoother since the update.

My hand was forced, had to RMA my MSI P35 for usb problems, and running my 4 year old PC after a Core 2 Duo is no fun!

Does anyone know how RAID 0 performance from the ICH10R SATA compares to RAID 0 from the Drive Xpert Silicon Image Sil5723 connectors ?

Does anyone know the difference between 'ExpressGate SSD' and 'ExpressGate'?

I have many a time that my machine is off and I want to quickly check something on the web... this feature would be ideal!

Standard ExpressGate has to be installed to a hard drive and it boots from it.

ExpressGate SSD motherboards have a flash drive soldered to the motherboard, and ExpressGate runs from it.

I'm just mentally preparing myself to wade through that thread at XS Cob!

I'm just wondering, is it worth starting a P5Q Deluxe owners thread here on OcUK? I noticed this thread is actually for the P5Q-E :o

Hmmm I didn't go through the differences between ICH9R and ICH10R yet but southbridge specs have never really been interesting for me personally, not sure if it's a selling point for most people except the users who are really into their hard drives and stuff?

I guess that was the answer I kind of expected

Well I could fall into that category - although I do have RAID 0 set up on my quad Opteron box, that was straight-forward

RAID's pretty simple to set up.

The test over at XS is at the bottom of this thread. ICH10R's average write is a good 80% faster than SI's, tho average read is similar.

All ICH10R really offers over ICH9R is a couple of extra SATA ports.
