Asus P5Q-E (P45) Motherboard Review

Has anybody had trouble with SATA on the P5Q's?

Just installed everything and it wont recognize my 2nd HD (Seagate 500GB).

It worked fine yesterday in the old build and the drive is showing in Computer Management but i get an "F:\ is not accessible" when i try accessing the drive. I've installed the SATA drivers and it picks up the first HDD & DVDRW but not this.

This is my first build using all SATA drives so not too sure. Have i missed something?

What do you mean you installed the SATA drivers?

Have you checked your disk using a bootable CD-ROM diagnostic provided by your disks manufacturer?

Is the SATA cable working? they sometimes break!

Dammit, I need a guide for OCing on this board, there are billions of BIOS options!

Currently having a tough time keeping the E8600 stable @ 3.93GHz, although I'm still using the crappy stock Intel cooler and I'm a complete n00b to Asus boards.

For what I've had out of it so far though, it's a ripping CPU. Just wish I could push it further. Anyone know if there is a decent OC guide for the P5Q-E around?

hi mate

the motherboard manual is a good guide

if you use that in conjunction with this guide on here

you are sure to get some good results

i do suggest getting a TRUE or tuniq tower to get the max performance out of your chip

Thank you, I'll take a look at that guide in a sec. EDIT: It's just a basic OCing guide? I want a guide for the P5Q-E BIOS. Sorry if I was unclear.

I've read the manual quite a bit over the last few days, btw. It's not very in-depth, though.

Hey Dee, take a deep breath my man, there is no simple easy to read guide on using the ASUS P5Q-Deluxe I'm afraid, it's got the most full on BIOS I ever did see and having owned it three weeks or so I am still not familiar with a lot of it

It's still quite a new board and chipset so I'm sure some helpful guides should pop up soon! :)

[edit] I assume you have read this thread once or twice? as there is a lot of useful info already here, trust me 400 odd posts is a *very* small thread!

Managed to fix this last night.

Forgot in my ****-up with previous XP install i messed about with the share settings on the drive, in doing so i set the whole drive to only that user.

All sorted now though :o

Im waiting for a guide also, not overclocked yet as coming from an opty 146 it doesnt feel slow yet.

Also the 0803 BIOS, this is the one showing dodgy temps right? As it shows my E85 @ around 60c idling, can play games fine so doesnt seem to get too hot but just wondering. Not updated bios yet as read some horror stories on the ASUS forums.

Dee - there is a massive (and i mean massive!) P5Q deluxe thread (i imagine there may be one for the p5q-e, but i suspect that a lot of the options are very similar) on xtremesystems.org/forums, under the intel section. I was very helpful to me when i first got the board, and people on there have covered just about every config of cpu/ram etc. If anything, some of the newer pages probably feature 8600s and could give you a useful starting point from which to base your overclock.

For me, upgrading the BIOS was invaluable - the stock bios was not very happy with OCing. I must admit i was a little nervous about bricking the board, but it really is very easy with the EZflash util in the bios (although i would advise not using the windows software!). All you need is a FAT32 formatted usb stick and your away!

The first thing I did was update to new BIOS (1201), and all is well (I think!).

Big Wayne, yes sir I have read the thread and all related P5Q-E/Deluxe threads. :) Thanks.

Anyone else experienced any firewire problems with the P5Q-DLX?

This board was delivered Tuesday along with some other bit’s n bobs I had selected for upgrade. Anyway I spent all day yesterday scratching my head trying to figure out what was going on when trying to pull up/push down a firewire device. Eventually I rolled back the XP SP3 patch to SP2 and hey presto as if by magic no problems with the previously invisible port.

All in all though I’m very impressed with the board and the comprehensive bios options available mine was shipped with bios 0803 which I found read strange temperature fluctuations. Has that been the norm? Now flashed to 1201 which seems to have produced more reasonable readings. Gonna let the parts bed in for a while then open it up and see what it can do.

Yup! :)

I think ASUS/CORSAIR combos are always a pretty safe bet, at least I never had a problem in the past using these two brands together myself
