Asus Prime X370-Pro Owner's thread

Hi All,

Sorry to ask a stupid question that's probably been asked a hundred times before, but would you guys recommend the X370 Prime Pro?

I checked through some of the initial pages but I wondered if it was still recommended after it's had BIOS updates.

Thanks,

I bought mine then got buyers remorse and checked this thread. It didn't help. I am very happy with mine.

I sometimes get a blank screen. The PC seems to be still on but I can't get my screen to display. On older BIOS, this would knock out the GPU for several reboots, even clearing CMOS won't help, then suddenly it would find it again. The most recent BIOS, now causes total the blank screen, mouse etc wont respond by lighting up but I haven't had it where it won't detect the GPU for a while.

Are you running your system stock or overclocked when getting these problems?

I received a couple of black screens like yours before I download and installed the "AM4 Chipset Driver" from amd.com
http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/chipsets/am4

In addition I was supsecting some energy settings disturbing my system. I disabled hibernation and the PCI Express energy saving options in all my energy power plans.

Also, included in the AM4 Chipset driver was the custom made AMD Ryzen Balanced power plan which I have been using ever since.

No blank screen chrash since I tid this.

It happened again this morning, this time GPU would not display at all. Rebooted several times to no avail. Reset CMOS, still not display. Then suddenly and without warning, I get the Asus splash screen and it boots up again with display.

I have been running the AMD chipset driver from the start and recently updated it. I don't think it's the GPU as it works fine now. Im not forking out for a new GPU just yet but it will happen when the prices are more sensible again.

I always had a slight stutter when gaming even though gsync would kind of iron it out.

I always had the ram at 2933 or something and can now boot at 3200 but it isn't very stable. Now that I have just lowered it to 2666 all the stuttering as disappeared.

Does this have to do with a divider issue with Ryzen or something?

Would like to hear anyone's ideas on this.

Came home from work and it had done it again. It's like the PCIe lanes fail. Took out my GPU, popped it into the other slot and still the same, no display. Put it back again, cleared CMOS, a few more reboots later, it's back. I have rolled back to 0810 BIOS as this was a tad more stable. Hopefully it will stay on overnight and the display will be functional in the morning.

Update: It seems to be getting worse. I was playing Elite Dangerous for about 20 minutes when there was a change in the sound of the GPU fans and low and behold, the display crashes again. I can still her the music and sound but my screen gives the no signal box. As I have reverted the BIOS, the reboot seems to clear the issue until I ran Elite and it crashed again.

Could I have a dodgy board or is it the GPU? The GPU ran perfectly fine until I upgraded the mobo, CPU and ram.

You're running an overclock? If so, put back to stock and see if that helps.

Stutter could be due to Windows 10 Creators update. Hopefully fixed with the Fall update in Oct.

You could switch the gpu with a friend for a while just to make sure it isn't your motherboard and also trying your gpu on his board.

If your gpu works and his gpu on your board it should be a strange/rare compability issue between your gpu and motherboard or a bios issue.

I was and I had removed it, everything at stock and it still did the same thing.

That's an idea I had not considered! I'm fairly certain it is board related but I will give that a try.

I am tentatively saying that I may have solved it. When I unplugged the two power plugs for the GPU, I noticed that one of them had some scorching around it. I have swapped out the cable (I am so pleased I went modular!) and so far I have not been able to make it crash. I have run all the programs and games that I have had issues with and so far so good.

Edit: Several days later and still rock solid. Even with an overclock now.

The new AGESA doesn't really seem to improve anything, though it would help if ASUS released a decent changelog with the BIOS updates.
The only issue I have left with the X370 Prime is the fan controller readings being off at times.

Same, 0810 seems fairly stable so far. I'd be excited if a new AGESA would improve anything rather than fix erratas, but according to Stilt on the anandtech forums, there aren't going to be any more of them coming for Ryzen.

I was of the understanding there already was a 1.0.0.7 being tested in the wild.

Considering AMD isn't making a lot of fanfare regarding 1007 like they did with 1004, it's probably nothing major and might be an errata fix so they avoid more SEGV RMAs.

If you're stable and happy with your current BIOS version, then there isn't much of a need to update it yet :D

0810 seems to be pretty stable, only issue is P-State overclocking (can brick the board according to some posts on hardwareluxx.de).
Though if you're having trouble getting your RAM to its rated speed, trying 0902 won't hurt.

I was bored so I installed 0902 but it didn't seem to do anything for me other than removing AMD CBS from the menu. It might help if you can't get your rated speed, but I could already get 3200 on my kit before this update.
