** ASUS ROG Xonar Phoebus IN STOCK at OcUK **

I would have loved one of these but it's a bit out of my price range sadly.

Hopefully they will release a cut down version.

Liking the pcie power for it. My d2x looks rubbish because of the floppy power connector. Really difficult to keep cables looking nice with a molex to floppy adapter hanging off the sound card :(

The cable is my big gripe with the D2X. I think I'll have to switch to one from my D2 come summer, as I won't have any PCI slots on my new board. But the big problem with that is I'll be switching to a stupid cable card.

I have considered the idea of an Essence STX, but the lack of 5.1 support bugs me as I've got 5.1 speakers...

The other option I guess would be one of these, but £180 on a soundcard is almost as much as the additional amount I'd be looking to spend on a GPU... so it really is a bit pricey..

I don't really mind the cable coming out of the back, as it just goes round the corner into the back of the case and doesnt get in the way at all.
It is a bit of a gripe taking the card out, as you have to bend the 4 pin connector slightly to remove it just like fan headers

Alhough it works out better if you have a braided 4 pin floppy power connector built into your PSU as that looks pretty nice ;)

Already have a Creative X-Fi Titanium HD that was £144 on launch, how would this be any better?

I've only ever had 3 soundcards so far - Soundblaster titanium, X-Fi Elite pro, and then X-Fi HD Titanium. They last for so long that they dont need replacing, I just needed a good audiophile grade PCI-E soundcard.

was looking at reviews of the d2x and looks like there are a bunch of leds with the thing and a floppy power cable ... is there anything that just doesnt look gimmicky? ...
might be tempted with this thing - just want to hear some reviews first thou. The stx or essence cant take 5.1 analog can it?

hmmm:confused:

Never felt the need of a sound card, onboard with a decent set of phones and a Fiio amp has never let me down. Especially at that price. :O I thought gpus were getting bad.

This is ridiculous... I doubt you will ever get any audio which can even utilise the full power of this card, as most of it is such low quality anyway.. only useful for true audiophiles and rich people :P

Bull.

FLAC/CD Music.
Most (all) games use high sample rate audio.
BluRay/DVD/Online content with good audio streams.

Sound cards are probably the most solid investment in a PC. You will never ever replace it anywhere near as much as any other component in your system.

Fiio amp connected how? If it was a USB/Optically connected DAC you were never using your onboard sound in the first place. I also cannot begin to believe you would use a decent amp connected to on-board sound via analogue with decent headphones and think it was utilising them as much as decent source equipment could.

If you have never used dedicated a decent sound card how would you ever know the difference to onboard?

The difference is very clear with proper mid-range to high end speakers/headphones.

If you are running some cheap £5-40 set of cans then no, you wont notice the difference.

would be awesome to use that front headphone adaptor thingy....

even better would love a comparision between the rog and the 20 quid amp card ;)

I have sennheisers hd 25-1 ii's so they're quality cans, as for the amp um think it's an e5 , which the headphones go in then from the amp to the headphone port in the onboard. my crosshair iii had a dedicated sound card and it didn't make any noticeable difference. Either way it sounds decent the way it is, I just personally wouldn't spend this on a card but I can see why people would. Just as literally when I'm home from work my cans and amp just go into my pc.

All relative to what your use to. I do own a Essence ST and compared to on board it's night and day.
