Asus UL30A

How would the UL30VT compare then? I like the ION because I can rinse it out on XBMC :)

Not tried XBMC on my ul30a but I have the Acer Revo with the ION chip and that is definitely slower via Windows 7 compared to the Acer so I would think that should be fine, saying that I get stutter on 1080p stuff in the latest XBMC on my Revo, am tempted to get the nightly build for it. However Boxee worked without stutter on same video on the Revo so might be just a problem with the build and might wait a week to install a newer one.

warning!!

dont order this laptop on the cpw website, i placed my order online and received a confirmation email. only after a few days of waiting did i ring up to find out that they dont have any in stock in their central warehouse, even though it says instock online!

at the moment only individual stores have them... unfortunately none of my local stores have any instock :(

This would be a nice little upgrade :)

unavaible mate

I m on the market for a netbook notebook myself was looking at the asus EEE PC 1201 NL as it has a nv ion...but this has a beefyer CPU, plus dual core.

I only want a ion for light games anyways like Civi and a few older games, might beable to take C&C gens who knows to bad its rare to see ion with a fairly decent CPU rather than atom -.-

don't wanna pay no more than £400 for it

Yeah seams to be a feature of the drive :(

The constant seek noise is fairly loud to the point of being very annoying!

All pcs/laptops should come with Samsung drives!!

i know the asus has wireless N, but i've been looking at a few smaller notebooks that dont have wireless N.
in your opinion is it a big disadvantage not having wireless N?
does it make a notebook less future proof?

I have a laptop with G and a laptop with N. To be honest I don't notice a spot of difference. Either my N wireless point is crap, or there really isn't that much difference!

Got my UL30 off the Members Market yesterday and loving it. Thought I would try and put W7 HP x64 vanilla on in the form of an ISO made from my OEM copy of Windows and use the key on the bottom on the UL30. To be sure it worked I tried the ISO in VirtualBox on my desktop and the key isn't being accepted. :(

Not sure why as both UL30 and the OEM are Windows 7 HP x64. Ah well, thought I'd saved a few quid there, looks like I'm buying Windows again for £90. :p

hold on a sec before you shell out £100.

I've installed Win 7 from a retail copy of Windows 7 Home edition, used the notebook key, and it worked for me. but it's not a OEM version, which could be your problem.

Also, 'apparently' you can download Windows Home edition (no hacks) from microsoft. Haven't tried though.

Basically, if you can grab a copy of Win 7 home edition retail (from friends, work, familly, microsoft...), and use the key under the laptop, you should be all right.

I've just checked the site I got Windows 7 from for my PC and it was the full version so I think I was using an OEM key with a retail version of Windows 7 hence it not working.

I'm downloading an ISO from that link you posted. I'll give it a go. :)
