ASUS X53Z HDD Password

Right, ok he agreed to get that drive you have recommended. Will be here 2moro.
Ok so have a windows 7 serial key on the bottom of his laptop, if i go to microsft that key will not work as it belongs to a manual factor.. so can not download the ISO. He would like window 10. To my knowlege it not free is it???
If it is.. how would you recommend i get it or windows 7 ISO.

*For future refrence if anyone come across the same issues. If you can't get in the BIOS. Take the drive out, boot and press F2. But i can't get it to boot from the Pen drive if the hard drive is plug in*

Great stuff. Honestly, an SSD like that in a laptop like that is a no brainer these days. It'll be a completely different machine with it in.

The Media Creation Tool linked is still the way to go. With Windows you can install it for free for 30 days, and then after that it'll bug you to activate it.

So, head to the Media Creation Tool page on your desktop PC and use it to create a Windows 10 installer pendrive. Use that to install Win 10 on your laptop with the new SSD. If it asks, you want Win 10 Home (x64 / 64-bit)

When Win 10 released, they enabled people with valid serials from earlier versions to upgrade for free. Officially that's ended, but apparently it still works. When you install Windows 10 it might ask for a key. If it does, put in the Windows 7 serial that you have on the bottom there. It may just work. Even if it doesn't, you can still install no prob without a serial, you just need to give it one after 30 days.

Evening mate. Glad it's all heading in the right direction, good to hear.

Windows 10 will probably have all the drivers you need built in. In any case, it seems that the laptop only had Win7 drivers officially released, so you're probably better off letting Windows decide.

Once up and running, just run Windows update until it doesn't want to update anything else, then go to Device Manager and look for any devices that have the yellow exclamation mark by them. If you don't have any of them, then you should be fine.

If you do have some of them, then figure out what it is and download the driver for it from the Asus site
