Asus X99 High End System having boot issues, please help :-(

OK, so I plugged in the keyboard and tried about 6 restarts, turn off/ on using the switch and is working OK.

Plugged the mouse back (forgot which socket it was in originally) and that also now seems to be working OK.

Have to say, not holding my breath because last time I thought I had fixed it it came back a day later.

Regarding BIOS I've downgraded to the very first one and flashed all the way up the latest (2101) and it was still not booting. I thought the bos button just flashed from USB without having to go into ez flash to select it?

Damnit... The time it's taken to write the above and its stopped booting again!!

Ok so along while longer.... and it seems the issue is the mouse of all things! if its plugged in i get eventually (within a couple of boots) a boot failure, flashing cursor or hang on windows loading screen. With it unplugged seems to work every single time.

Tomorrow i will go and buy a 'cracker' mouse, a mouse thats so standard and cheap it could have come inside a cracker ;-)

In the HDD priorities I only have my SSD as an option I had already disabled the other there Inc optical. I have brought the manual in with me to work, I shall have to try and see if there is a way to disable USB booting elsewhere.

I also contacted roccat directly as well.

I just read in the USB section I can DISABLE xHCI and it says it will disable the ability to boot to a usb device.

eHCI Legacy USB Support
------------------------------
[Disabled] - Your USB 2.0 devices can be used for BIOS setup only and cannot be recognized in the boot devices list.

If I plug the mouse into 1 of the only 3 usb 2.0 sockets on the mainboard this may be a fix?

also my board comes with an addon usb 3.1 PCI card, maybe I could install it and use usb 3.1 sockets?

Make sure to plug usb mouse and keyboard into the usb v2.0 ports at the top of the motherboard. If you still have a problem go into the bios and set on boot the setting for the usb ports that is probably set to "partial" to "full initialize" on boot the usb ports on the motherboard.

Tried the EHI and xHI settings and the partial to full all the same no good.

I have however found a work around until either a new x99 bios or a mouse firmware.

I install the 2 port USB 3.1 PCIe card that came with the new board (didnt have one on the old one) and plugged the mouse only into that, keyboard is where its always been. This seems to work, maybe the few seconds it takes to initialize that card allows the machine to skip where it was getting stuck.

I rebooted/ shutdown and restarted over 20 times in a row without problems..

Moved the mouse back into a a regular USB slot, second reboot failed and 2 more after that.. moved back to the 3.1 card.. working again.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped get to the bottom of this problem even those people who suggested stuff I had already tried, so far now after 24hrs.. no issues.

Big thanks to Danoliver1 for pointing down the route you did.

I wish Asus would just accept there was a problem with the boards and try and sort it instead of the blanket " there is no problem with the board ".

Very frustrating and they should at least of known about it.

Yeah i had already got that particular firmware, however the bit that through me is that i changed back to my old mouse and keyboard which was the Razor Lachesis and the Razor Lycosa so i assume (wrongly) that my keyboard and mouse were ok because the issue also was present with them.

The other thing i find strange is that its been suggested in the far reaches of the internet that its the on board ram on the mouse that causes the board to try and boot to it, this does sound plausable i guess however in the bios you can disable booting to usb devices which you would think would have done it but it doesnt.

At least if this thread stops another person from buying a new board and set of ram at £500 then its been worth it!
