Eek your not having much luck Colin.

I have no doubt that your ram is the issue you need ECC for SMP, and also you'l need a pair at least for 2 cpu's. 1 stick probably won't work either. (I haven't tested that however from all past experience). As stated above - I'd be very suprsed if regular ram would work. The QVL is a bit sucky, as the crucial ram I have isnt listed, however the chips used (Crucial use micron chips) are listed. Anyways ECC registerd is what you need.

What colour are the LED's next to the CPU's ?
I too couldn't boot up initially which had me panicd. I don't recall the error codes though.
I did need a bios update to resolve that, which also had me head scratching for a bit. Only 1 special usb slot works for this process and ensure the filename is correct when saved to the usb stick. If I recall it did take a lot longer than I expected to flash, I almost gave up and rebooted mid way thinking it wasn't working (DON'T). Use a low capacity drive with FAT32

CPU LED's are not lit, I've just looked up the RAM I'm using Crucial but it's Non-ECC is this my problem you think? My error code is 61 NVRAM Initialization. The crucial sticks I'm using are CT8G4DFD8213.16FA1 8gb DDR4 - 2133 1.2V DR X8 UDI

I cleared my CMOS and now have been able to boot again thankfully, just gonna run through the bios flash again and see what happens. I'm away back abroad tomorrow so I guess it'll have to wait and try different ram when i get home again.

Thanks for all the help and advice folks

Would this kit be ok http://uk.crucial.com/ProductDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10153&categoryId=&productId=134037&urlLangId=-1&langId=-1&top_category=&parent_category_rn=&storeId=10153

From a cursory glance that looks to be suitable. On a train atm so can't look up all the details.

I see the existing chips you have are listed as server ram.. a bit misleading imo as any "propper" server wouldn't use that. I guess a server can be any system, it's just the way it's configured.

Crucial stated to me on live chat both the above should work. Best check with them yourself too.

2 Dimms will give single channel mode
4 Dimms will give dual channel mode
8 Dimms will give quad channel mode

Also Colin - a real cold boot is often required if there is a previous boot failure (Turn off power at mains, turn on power at computer).

I've been given the cold boot procedures from Asus support and also told to try other ram. Won't be able to do that now for another month as I'm heading back to work abroad.

Thanks again though for taking the time to reply

What revision is your board?
the revision number is right next to the white Z10PE-D8 WS words above slot 1 next to the dimm?

Thx

Appears to be 1.03 It was the first available board in Europe I could get. - and you ?
Have you heard about any differences with revisions ?

I am running bios version Version 0602, there is a 0702 which I have not installed on the basis of "If it's not broken - Don't fix it" The change log's for the bios data makes little sense.

Apparently however It adds
- CPU and memory voltage control is in
- Memory frequency control is in

They also added tons of additional options for performance tweaking.

1.04 but I had a 1.03.

I had an issue with the m2 drive port and did the ASUS rma

Turned out it was the drive and after I swapped it everything was fine. So there probably wasn't anything wrong with the 1.03

Bios
I highly recommend the 702 bios as it has a lot of improvements

Sorry guys, I'm in India now and can't check the board, it was interesting to read your issue with m2 drive Venturi. I have a Plextor one connected, were you still able to boot with this fault?

I'm not going to be able to do any testing again for 4 weeks, I'm going to get ECC ram for starters and do the cold CMOS reset. Hopefully get some life out of it.

Yes you can boot from m2 drive if your os can gpt boot only
Please read my intro write up on how to do that

In my case it was a faulty drive, swapped it and it all works

You can use won 7 64 ultimate as well if you use the macrium software

:D Yeay

Good news Colin!
I was feeling pretty bad for you with so much awesome kit not working, glad you have it up and running.

I did update the bios to 0702 with no problems.
There are more options available, however I have not had a play with them. As per useual, they have made up specialist terms for various settings with little/no explanation to what they actually do :p. Plus I'm no bios expert so it likely me being uneducated in such things too. - Share if you find some special settings.

I did upgrade the ram to 128GB and chucked in a few 980's also, can't say I notice any difference in speed with quad channel not that I have bench-marked anything, at least I can do a few more things without running out of memory though.
The great thing is that the board is rock sold stable and fast!, its been running over 4 days at 100% CPU for the latest calc, never had one blip.

If anyone finds a app that allows you to monitor temps etc that would be handy. CPU'z stuff doesn't appear to report correctly. so I used the hand test, things are just re-reassuringly mildly warm which I assume is good.

And the tweak town review.. :o A bit OTT with the scores, however It's defiantly the best motherboard I have ever had :D. Just wish the IKVM was included, as I can't find where to get it.

Hey mate, I know what you mean I was a bit unsure even how to overclock it at first, was just increasing the BLCK to 105 was as far as I went. I know what you mean about the bios its very limited on function description.
What's your settings in the tweaker?

Hey guys, got a wee bit annoyed seen a couple of builds (unfinished) sporting all this fancy ddr4 that's not registered ecc, I can't see how it'll work with the board. Considering the issues I had I'm just laughing at these flashy pics !
Hoping to rebuild mine again next time home, after having moved house its been mad and no time for projects.

Jay thanks for the tip, AIDA 64 Extreme, I'll check it out

I'm 100% sure you won't be able to use non ecc. Those pic's are not from working systems, people with more money than sense. Sure they have a good looking motherboard.. that doesn't work ...

If it really bugs you you can get some aftermarket ramshields I can't find any as flash as the vengance, however there are quite a few options if you look about.

Bitspower Universal RAM Cover
Nexus HXR-5500
Also places like acoustic pc, silent pc offer various products.

Yeah mate, I actually commented on one FB page and got a reply. Yes they said it doesn't work ! I was gob smacked, its very misleading and to think it was a 20th Anniversary build for Asus they were showing.

I just ordered some cheapo ram spreaders in gold to see how they look, but I'll check out your suggestions if the one I ordered aren't any good. They were only 6 quid so no great loss.

Hello!

I have purchased the motherboard ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS and I'm unable to boot it at all.

The CPU fan starts spinning for 1 second and then it just dies.
I spoke with ASUS support without being able to solve the issue.

My setup it:
ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS
Intel Xeon 2620v3
Non-ECC 2xCT4K8G4DFD8213 – http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct4k8g4dfd8213

Reading this thread I see that people have had problem with this MB before and I'm thinking that the issue could be that the RAM are non-ECC. Could it really be that?
I was hoping that if its RAM-related that the Q-code should show something.

The Q-code never shows anything

Is there anything at all that I can try to get any information out from?
Start without RAM? Without CPU?

You have to use Reg ECC ram I'm afraid I had the same problem, Asus engineer told me I had to switch to ECC. I was using Crucial CT8G4DFD8213.16FA1 8gb DDR4 - 2133 1.2V DR X8 UDI which didn't work. So I switched to this 32GB Kit

http://www.crucial.com/SearchDispla...showResultsPage=true&searchSource=Q&pageView=

Are you only using one CPU btw? There is a specific way for them to go in if you are using one or both cpu sockets. But it really looks like you bought the same version of the ram as I did but as a kit, I bought mine in singles. The retailer also wouldn't take them back so lost out there big time.

Here is the link to the Qualified Vendors List for your board (It doesn't list the Crucial ECC I use but it works on my D8)
