At what point do you say GPU's are too expensive and refuse to buy?

truth!!
Yes - this forums demographic is a lot of middle aged older white blokes though, which traditionally due to the way our society is setup tend to earn above average to say the least. It's clear from a few known forum members they are on CONSIDERABLY more than most - but often their posts show having money doesn't often correlate with a high intelligence ;) They just got lucky......sadly a fair fews 'world view' just isn't realistic & they think life is easy for everyone, just like theirs is.

Rant over ;)

Full disclosure I am one of these older dudes who COULD buy a 5090, but I absolutely sure as hell won't because its obviously not worth anywhere near that.

Was a long time ago, could well have been the case.
The only GPU i ever paid less than £100 was for my voodoo 1 card (Think it was either £75 or £85)
voodoo 2 was around 120
voodoo 3 3000 was 160
and the rest carried on going up in price each time from there

My current card is a radeon 5700 (non XT). IIRC it cost £300 new. Before that I had a radeon 480 which cost less. I really need an upgrade and was looking to the 9070 but I suspect it will be more than I can justify spending. I could possibly stretch to £500 if I thought the card was a big jump and would last for a fair few years but I would probably need a few drinks before I would be able to click the buy button tbh. Especially as I will probably need a new psu as well.

I just don't game enough to justify spending too much. If I was starting from scratch I don't think I could afford a gaming pc at all unless it was building a low end pc to play older titles.

In the future, Nvidia 1030GT will probably be £2000

X800 GTO2 with Red PCB. Unlocked to full X800XT (16 Pipes) and overclocked to within an inch of its life. I recall holding the 3DMark03 record for a very brief period on Guru3D with that card until someone came along with a volt modded variant.

Awesome card at the time outperforming Nvidia's own 6800 Ultra for less money.
Was trying to think what I bought after the x800 , must have been a 6600 i think.

Then again i spent 14.5k on buying motorcycle to ride about 2000miles per year only mainly when it sunny
Plus the 2k odd of stuff to go with it like helmet, gloves, jackets, luggage, mods, etc :o

If you no waste that hard earned cash on an over priced GPU then there always something else to waste it on ;)

For myself i no have this kind of income to waste anymore as i used to work 60 hours every week, But am now only doing about 42 hours most weeks

Graphics cards are worthless in 10 years and won't perform well or at all in the latest games. (1080ti now can't launch RT required games thus becoming useless going forward for latest games.)

That bike will still be as useful/fun in 10 years and still be worth something. I have a 95 cbr1000, not worth much (probably get 5080fe value) but I've had years of fun in her and will have further years of fun although I might have to get a more upright bike, my back is aging worse than the bike

To an extent, but the bike is a liability.

It requires ongoing costs, insurance, service, MOT, tyres, brakes, repairs etc. which can easily add up to more that the purchase price if you keep it long enough.

Around £1000. Even that sounds silly to me as I only use them for gaming.
Some the AIB are now priced £1,000 over the price of a 5090FE just for a different cooler :cry::cry:

Utterly pathetic.

Indeed - just because you can afford to buy a 5090 doesn't mean that you should.

Fuelling these psychotic prices is just insanity at this point. People will eventually figure out that the prices will stop going up when people stop paying them and only then will it ever stop.

These cards will be £700 on eBay in two years.
