At what point do you say GPU's are too expensive and refuse to buy?

It's what I did for the 3000 release, an Xbox and 2 years of games pass was less than what the 3070 would have cost me I was intending to buy.

They presumably aren’t ’whales’ so I guess they are just ‘uninformed’ or (dare I say it) ‘ignorant’ purchasers…

I sold my pc back when the PS3 came out and bought a PS3 and TV. After playing a few games, I missed PC.

Probably a better idea to try again now with better consoles and things like game pass though.

I had the PS4 Pro, then PS5, for years. I sold the PS5 when I bought my ROG Ally and realised how much I missed PC gaming.

Now I have the third fastest gaming desktop (9800X3d / 5080) and I'm keeping a look out for the 5090, so yeah....

It was hard to imagine, before the 5090 came out, what the upper limit would be for me personally, but £3,000 is definitely close.
