Ati 4850 price released.

Yes i know, but it just doesn't make sense to me! How can a 150% increase shader power give just a 20% in overall performance? Nvidia increased their shaders by 70% and got ~60% increase in game.
Maybe ATI have redone their SP's to be very weak as shaders but still capable ALU's. In the end it doesn't matter if it has 800 or 480 as we know the performance level of the 4850 and it's a 8800gt, not a GT200 competitor.

Because the VLIW architecture is very inefficient but massively scaleable and hence the reason they've managed to get that amount of SP's and still have a decent yield.

Exactly ^^^ Dates seem to range from 18th/23rd for the 4850.

4870 seems to say 23rd so it would release with the 4850 (so that would make a release tommorow a non starter) but in limited quantities, with supply sorting it's self out in july.

The point was that they wanted 4870s out on launch for those who really wanted them before everyone went out and bought GTX 260 (it should be the dam number first!).

What I deduce from that is, if anyone (like me) wants a 4870 before july, and they do indeed release by the 23rd, if you see one, BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys,

I currently have a xfx 8800 ultra and had to recently get a different board (Asus Rampage) which is obviously not sli so was wondering with the new cards coming out Nvidia/ATI I have the choice of a single Nvidia or crossfire with ATI.

Now with the new cards coming on both scenarios single and multiple cards what would be the ones to go for that I will see a performance increase over my ultra??

Would it be either the new GX280 for a single card and then maybe 2x HD4870 or when they come out 2x HD4870x2 ??

1: No idea!
2: It should work as PCI-E is an international standard, it's the same everywhere. Think the same with a PSU and you'll be treated to a light show.

For an older PSU sure, where you had to physically switch between different input voltages. For newer PSUs today, absolute tosh. The switch to different input voltages is automatic. The only light show will be your case lighting.
