ATI cuts 6950 allocation

hehehehe..... methinks another pyramid could be in order

If I was to build a pyramid this time well the pyramid would be larger than OcUK's offices haha, let me just say I have a lot. ;)

Performance wise well for the money no one will be dissapointed. :)

Sigh, Gibbo you have never dissapoint me in generating frustration on these forums in the 10-11 years I have surfed them!

So we now know:

Good stock volume and that the performance to the price ratio is good.

So its either expensive and got a fair engine under the bonnet or its cheaper than expected and packing same output as a GTX580. I think I can live with either, just depends on that ratio. Mind you Eyefinity kind of sinks the GTX for me :)

Well if theres a lot of stock that may have been the reason the launch was delayed, to actually have ample stock ready. Don't think theres a single 580 in stock atm so even if the 6970 is somewhat slower its at least an option for people wanting a new card.

I personally don't see 6970 being faster as amd switched away from that strategy a few years back. But come release day if it is slower people will likely be talking like amd flat out stated it was going to bury the 580 when nothing like that was suggested.

My guesstimation, cheaper than the 580 but also a bit less powerful.
That's just my jab at it, we'll find out, no use in worrying yet.

Not for me at least, I'm waiting for the price drops :) Part of me hopes it is more powerful than a 580 and quite a bit cheaper, now those would be some nice reductions.

My guess is either it's £100 cheaper than a gtx580 and is neck and neck with it or it;s £20 to £30 cheaper and blows the gtx580 out of the water.

How can you begin that comment with "let's be honnest"? The 580 is atleast 20% faster with ATI biased games and upto 65% faster within the ones which favour NVidia. Overall, the GTX580 is ~40 faster, which is MASSIVE.

If 6970 turns out to be only 40% faster than GTX580, will you say that difference is also not massive?

Hahahahaha *points*.

Exactly me point. Wasn;t it almost £100 cheaper than the gtx260 at launch yet almost matched it? That certainly caught Nvidia by surprise.

The original GTX260 was actually 4850 performance, that's why they released the 216 shader version which matched the 4870. The 4850 and 4870 were actually priced against the 9800s and nVidia had to drastically cut the GTX200's prices.

The 192SP GTX260 was slightly behind the 4870 in most cases and moderatly faster than the 4850 which usually traded blows with the 9800GTX+/GTS250. The 216SP GTX260 was faster than the 4870 in most stuff.

The GTX260 216 and 4870 1GB were neck and neck in the majority of things, ridiculously close even. I remember the GTX260 192 being not much faster than a GTS250/9800GTX+ as well.

everyone talks about how driver really give the card an extra 10-20% performace increace by the time its EOL'd, but i would love to see benches to see if thats true.
