ATI cuts 6950 allocation

Will be interesting to see what the price is and how they overclock. If they can be overclocked to match 580 speeds and come in much lower in price they have a winner

Would that not put the 480 @ 25% quicker? Where are these benchmarks you have seen magic that put it quicker than the 580 in this benchmark?

From the German guys benchmarks a stock 480 is slightly slower but there has not been enough games tested to draw any conclusions, certainly RE5 and F1 are not demanding titles, F1 being very badly optimized. With proper drivers we could be looking at substantial performance gains.

Most of the benches posted seem consitent with a card ~10% slower than the GTX580. If the test drivers are really bad I would expect a lot more variance within the results, but as things stand it seems 6970 improves things by 15-20% vs 5870. Not by enough to oust the opposition. Heaven is the one benchmark where things have improved greatly. and this matches AMD's own slides and comments regarding tesselation improvements over 5870.

Perhaps the 6900 was designed to correct the 5800's perceived weakness in tesselation vs GTX480/580. Perhaps it was never designed as a GTX480/580 killer. Things that seem to good to be true generally are.

So, a quick side by side of the supposed 6970 v GTX580:)

Why is he using Catalyst 10.11? These drivers don't even support 6800?

1536 shaders looks like Cayman Pro to me. Such performance would be right then and I think the texture fill rate contradicts with previous rumours but I might be wrong about it.

10.12 WHQL has already been leaked for a few days too. Why doesn't he try it then?

magicroundabout and Raven, when was the last time you've heard from your source?

BTW stop mentioning Benchmark Reviews, they haven't proved in any way that they even got the card, their article is a fake based on tests of the German dude (at least that's what it looks like).

I'm not sure how you guys value Charlie's opinion but he's currently posting on Semi-Accurate forums and although seems to be under NDA, he does take the benchmarks very lightly and suggests that Cayman is indeed big (and not a flop).

I give the guy some credit, he was almost perfectly right about everything before Evergreen was released and right about Fermis long before we knew a lot about them.

Problem I see, all these people in the know with inside knowledge they have leaked, what drivers are they using opposed to this german dude who I presume is using the shipped drivers. (if true)
