**ATI RADEON 7800 SERIES NOW AVAILABLE!!**

You seriously think that the current crop of GPU's are worthwhile over 2009's 58XX?

Yes. For people buying now who would buy a 5XXX or even a 6XXX rather than a 7XXX?

It doesn't matter what the 5XXX or 6XXX launch price was, it's irrelevant. Right now for sub £200 new you can't get a better card than the 7850.

It simply is the best card in that price range based on performance, power draw, heat, noise and features. Simple as that.

It's not like GPU launch prices have always been low, if anything they are returning to what they used to be (unfortunately for us consumers), ATi had a patch of cheap GPU's (after the 2900 bombed) where they were trying to win market share back after the 8800 series kicked them to the curb after the long period of 9700pro-1900XTX dominance.

Launch Prices (AMD):

9700pro = $399
9800Pro = $399
1800XTX = $449
1900XTX = $649
2900XT = $399
3870 = $249
4870 = $299
5870 = $379
6970 = $369
7970 = $549

The 3870 was peanuts, the 4870 a bargain, the 5870 prices started to creep back up, the 6970 was about the same price, and now the 7970 is back to pre 2900 pricing. nVidia on the other hand have had pretty much consistent high launch prices.

FX5800U = $399
FX5900U = $399
8800GTX = $599
9800GTX = $329
GTX280 = $649
GTX285 = $399
GTX480 = $499
GTX580 = $499
GTX680 = $499

just a quick question im thinking of upgrading to a 7850 and was wondering if its worth the upgrade from my 6850? what kind of performance difference would i see?

i am debating about waiting for awhile though to see how everything levels out(price wise) and see what nividia has to offer and such.

Keep getting a really annoying issue when bringing my machine out of sleep mode with the 12.3 driver, just kinda freezes for a minute and then says the display driver has been recovered?

hex- you done anymore overclocking and you had to touch voltage yet:)

Not yet, i've not found a way around teh CCC limits yet, MSI AB doesn't like the 12.4beta's (with regards to voltage and ccc unlocks), and Trixx doesn't support 78XX's yet. So it's just a matter of waiting for the apps to catch up.

I don't really want to go back to older CAT versions. As soon as the OC apps let me I'll be aiming for 1150+
