There goes my plan of upgrading the cpu!
Yep! No point upgrading my 955BE to 2500/2600K if im gonna get the same FPS in BF3/Crysis2

I think this thread highlights the missed opportunity AMD had with these cards.
My 480 SOC @ 840/2000 gets 47 compared to the stock 7950 score of 55, it's a nice improvement (~17%) but you wouldn't upgrade for it. Now if these cards were clocked higher as stock you could get that figure up to 30-40% faster.
Surely if the price of the 580 drops the people who would have got a 570 will get a 580 instead unless the reduce both?

Yeah man, overclocking sure is tough, phew. Don't know how I managed it...

Two of the cheapest GTX580s and two of the cheapest GTX570s. The GTX580 has more room to drop where the GTX570 at those prices are great .
I'm interested to see how the 7950 1.5GB handles for vRAM use in games like BF3 as AMD usually do well in this scenario.
In fact Gibbo, do you have any 7950 1.5GB cards in stock?. Also is there any chance of a few benchmarks please if you do?.
(I hope you answer me this time Gibbo, I've asked you a few questions and you've blanked me completely....hence the resize of your name )
Hi there
1.5GB varients won't be until March time I am afraidl.
And AMD put the smack down on this thread
Also are the cards not being sold on the 31st?. 6 days before release I'd suspect to know more also so I don't get what AMD are doing with the NDA .
AMD product launches are always... wait and rabid speculation... wait... ta da! Here it is
What about the 7970 then?.
NDA lifted on the 22nd of December 2011, cards didn't launch till the 9th of January 2012.
I think it's fair to assume the NDA should be lifted on the 7950 3GB with 6 days remaining till they are available to buy. I just think it's a bit strange by AMD.
With the 7970 holding The Fastest Graphics Card Eva™ title and flying off the shelves @£420-500 if I were AMD I'd keep the details of the monster clocking little brother that's £100 cheaper* and still faster than a GTX580 close to my chest

I'm sold on a 7950 if it will fit my case.
My reference design (10.5") 6950 fits with enough room for an SATA cable to pass through.
I was gonna get a 7970 but at 11" I'd need a new case :/ which puts the 7970 out of my price range.
So is the 7950 11"?
Are there any 7970 or 7950 models soon to be released that are 10.5" or less?
And does anyone want a Powercolour 6950 that clocks up to 920MHz on stock volts and can make a clean 1000MHz with some bonus power for say £125?
oh, and is the 7950 as likely to hit 1200+ core as the 7970?
Are they really flying off the shelves at £420-£450? There seems to be plenty of stock everywhere I look, and that is rather unusual for a newly released high end card. Supply is definately outstripping demand. With the 7970 holding The Fastest Graphics Card Eva™ title and flying off the shelves @£420-500 if I were AMD I'd keep the details of the monster clocking little brother that's £100 cheaper* and still faster than a GTX580 close to my chest
