Atkins diet?

have you seen students?

i know plenty of people who only live on hotdogs and beer, none of them are fat

urggh no taste and totally pointless. It is not bad for you and studies have not shown increased risked to health. You also need extra slat if you don't eat processed food. the body needs it to function.

Table salt may or may not damage yolur body,
sea salt or rock salt is very good for you and actually reduces the risk of many things include heart attacks.
Absolute pish. Salt, in any form, is not to be toyed with, and has been shown to increase blood pressure problems as you age (which, by the way, is one of the causes of heat attacks)

asthma is an excuse imo. or at least a lot of people "with" it are misdiagnosed. Its just some lie made up to disguise fact some people can't run lol. Know plenty of people who have been diagnosed and for some reason have inhalers but i go would probably be out of breathe before them :P

dj jestar fairly sure you need some salt to be healthy lol, lots of people take some salt in water for various reasons

Then why are you claiming adding salt is actually good for you?

because it is. Sea salt and rock salt is very good of you. salt is also essential. The link between excess salt and poor health is shaky at best and those studys concentrate on process food and table salt. Not real salt.

People who our on a diet or healthy living will more than likely cut out processed food and in these case you WILL NEED extra salt in your diet.

Sea salt and rock salt aren't pure salt and include a lot of essential stuff.

Yes, you need some salt, but just about all food has salt in it already.

Just to be clear, my point is about adding salt, be it table or as an ingredient. Hell even Broccoli has plenty of salt in it. Something like Olives has loads.

That salt is not enough. You will need extra salt on top of that.

I believe that if you want to be healthy, you don't pick a diet or go on a diet. Eating a healthy diet and exercising has to be your lifestyle. I don't mean that in a superficial way, I mean you have to honestly believe in what you're doing and it should all come naturally. A healthy person eating a healthy diet and exercising will be happy and will achieve what they want. A person with an 'unhealthy person on a diet' mentality will not enjoy eating well and burning fat.

I can't speak from experience about trying to lose a lot of weight, but I would not recomend the Atkins diet to anyone. It isn't what I would do for sure. My advice would be to keep an eye on your food but to not obsess about it for one minute. Just try and steer clear of what you know is junk food, while at the same time make sure you're getting enough of the food you need. Steak, potato wedges & baked beans.. pasta with homemade tomato sauce.. baked potato with cheese and salad.. mmmmmm..

I would definately put more importance on exercise than on food. Excercise can't be beaten for making you feel good long and short term. If you're lucky you'll LOVE going to the gym when you get used to it or playing your sports(s), and then you've got it made!

has anyone tried this extreme diet as im starting it in a few days time:eek:

Alternatively you could adopt a change in lifestyle, eat properly, and exercise.

Fad and extreme diets are for the stupid, gullable and lazy. Im sure you're none of these. ;)

Go read up on it..

lol Sodium Chloride is Sodium Chloride wether its from the sea, land or some other part of the universe. Saying you can go around chewing lumps of rock salt and its good for you is ridiculous.

I haven't read the thread properly, but the general idea is that calories in need to be less than calories out.

I'd recommend a ketogenic diet. Protein and fats keep you feeling fuller for longer, and you don't realise that you are on a diet in between meals because of it. Makes it a lot easier to enjoy it.

I'd recommend finding out your metabolic rate (go to a gym, they can measure body fat, and from the info they give you, you can calculate metabolic rate, or they'll give it to you) and eating that many calories a day. Whatever else you do during the day will put you in a calorie defecit.

My base metabolic rate was 1900 calories. I ate 1900ish a day, and did 30 mins of running at a pace that made me burn 500 calories each time (1000calories/hr), with some resistance training involved. I lost about 2lb a week!

I'd been on a low carb diet for a few weeks before I had it measured, cause I knew that you lose weight very quickly in the first week or so due to water weight.

If you feel you have the dedication to stick at Atkins then you're just as likely to stick to a proper diet and excercise, the results are the same and no one is going to argue that excercise and a balanced diet is healthy whereas in relation to Atkins there are voices of dissent who claim it is unhealthy.

I'd avoid it myself tbh, carbs wouldn't be available in the abundance in nature that they are if our bodies didn't need them.

OP; this is one of the BS posts I warned about :p

As I said without finding my old post certainly over a year ago maybe longer. I would have to scour the web again, which took me weeks last time. As I said read up and make your own choice.
