##Atomic Heart thread##

Am i being really dim, or is there no way to combine ammo of the same type into one slot in your inventory? I just have loads of random amounts of the same ammo taking up loads of slots.

Ok, so I got to the red slithery enemy and hit a(nother) thoroughly annoying keybind issue.

I was already a bit miffed with the keybind options, as you can't change the vehicle accelarate key even if you use other keys to move. I use arrow keys to move as a left-handed player, and to drive I have to use the default WASD for vehicle or else I can't accelerate at all. But okay, you don't use vehicles that much, and you don't need quick reactions to get the cars moving, so it's not as bad as it might have been.

Now I find an enemy with a grab attack that you need to pass a QTE for to avoid having it be an instakill. Except the QTE uses keys around the original WASD binding (Q, E, F, etc.) even if you've rebound the functions those keys originally inputted.

As you need to be pretty quick with these key presses I failed this when I got grabbed (right near the end of the fight, with the enemy on about 20% health...), since I can't dash my hands from either the arrow keys or the mouse to the correct keys in time. I beat this enemy the second time by just sticking too close for it to use its grab, but this is still annoying.

It's the same for the sneak attack QTEs you need to input. They don't follow the rebinds from the keys around WASD either. So I just don't do stealth kills.

Really hard to believe that all through QA testing they never thought to test how things would work for somone who, heaven forbid, doesn't want to use WASD (you know, actually rebinding the keys...).

Oh well.

Think I'm nearing the end now. I've been really quite enjoying it despite the buginess, loopy story, hamfisted exposition, and sometimes lightweight combat.

I now have all the weapons, and enjoying thwacking enemies with the big saw blade axe and using guns more freely now I am absolutely swimming in ammo.

With a few patches to fix bugs and several QoL issues this would be a really decent game (rather than one I am enjoying despite these issues). I think I've got stuck on scenery more than in all the other games I've played in the past couple of years combined. It just happens so damned often. The platforming could be tweaked to make the (frequent) parts of the game that use that less frustrating. I would really like not to have to sit through the pointless "installing" bar animation every time I swap out powers (which appears for every node on every power tree you switch to...). And so on.

The buginess is illustrated by my experience last night... my eldest comes into the room and says "oh, you're still playing Atomic Heart, I hear it's pretty buggy" right as a plyusch fight first bugs out by it not spwaning in, so only its health bar is on-screen (with its healh very slowly chipping down for some reason), then magically appears from nowhere, and then a minute later bugs out again and stays perma-frozen half in and half out of a computer console, letting me wallop it impunity until it's dead. "Yeah, pretty buggy to be fair..."

There's a fun game under all that, though, and a pretty cool Soviet retro-futurist aesthetic making the world feel interesting to explore.

stuck on this piece of sh*** boss...

EDIT: finally done it with the axe alone

I'm 10 hours in,

Honestly, some of the platforming and jumping puzzles really annoyed the **** out of me.

It feels a bit weird, how everything has gone to hell and everybody got murdered, blood, gore and stuff everywhere, but how the player character is just dropping really bad jokes and lines all the time, it really doesn't work.

It looks good, (stunning in fact) but it does feel a bit like I'm being herded through a ghost train, which should frighten and upset me - when half the time I'm just going "really??"

Not sure I can be arsed to finish it, to be honest - I just got to a big room that I need to mess around with using magnets, in order to progress, and I just can't be bothered lol.

Years ago when I played Halflife 2 and got to Ravenholm, it scared the absolute hell out of me with it's ambience, darkness and uncertainty. That's what I feel this game should be doing, but it's the opposite,

I quit it tonight - I've not played for a while and saw they had brought out the patch so gave it one last go. There is so much of the game that annoys and I just can't be bothered with it. I think they had some good ideas and it could have been a good game, but they made too many bad design choices in terms of gameplay.

Just started this, the graphics are so detailed. Just on a bridge watching a huge parade and it runs smooth as butter.
Sadly I feel they blew the budget on the opening scenes/ major built up area. The terrain looks very aged when you are in more rural areas. Very low detail to the terrain and no effort put in to physical interaction with the rocky area. Movement over rocks etc is terrible, so many times I've found myself stuck in rocks/scenery. I like exploring the peripheries/nooks and crannies, making sure I find as many of the items/boxes etc as I can on the likely only run through I will do.
On that point, did anyone else see the hidden loot box next to the waterfall on the area scan feature? never found an entrance despite much looking at the time... I've long since past that area sadly.

I completed this at the weekend and enjoyed it overall, Didn't miss the lack of ray tracing, has some nice environments and animation details.

Biggest criticism would be how easy it was to get stuck on things which would force you to have to load a previous save point but they were so plentiful i never lossed more than 10mins of gameplay I would say.

I've only played through the first 1hr or so. Does the protagonists juvenile behaviour get any better? The game has all the things I enjoy, the theme is interesting, it's a single player story driven game with good music (hooray for Mick Gordon) etc but the main character is putting me of playing.

Change it to Russian with subtitles.
