Attack on NI military base

This is why Sir Hugh Orde called in the special forces who will from now on intercept such ambushes with a shoot to kill policy if its to be.

that and their ablity to not be able to be tried by a court if the information lead them to believe their was a threat to civilian or armedforces/ their lives, this single rule. allowed the security force to go on the attack and break the criminals backbone forcing them to go down the politcal route.

if the sas have been transfered form iraq and counter terror training duties back to northern ireland expect a fair amount of ni police force arrests from out sourced intel.

The poor boys who got wiped died with honour protecting something they loved, no revenge is needed we just honour our boys and move on

My comiserations and thanks go to all there family and friends

*disclaimer this is not me taking sides I would honour those who died on either side with true love and peace in there hearts unfortunatly both sides seem to have lost the desire to live a peaceful and beatiful life on the earth, which is a shame. WAR in the same way POWER is is addictive and corrupts your spirit. power corrupts etc. /disclaimer*

The SAS were in NI for many many years and didn't have too much success.

Most info came from informers and undercover officers, and, as has already been said, those won't be as effective on a very small organisation such as the RIRA.

the only reason the british army theiris, cos the northern irish said theyd wanted to stay in the uk, if the voted out we'd leave without fuss, keeping the channels open for the irish to join the british army and keeping our promis of protection for the rep of ireland.
but these people dont seem to have any historical based commonsense, you cant force people to change their minds you just steel their resolve.
i just feel sorry for the people and soldiers who have to deal with these retards, people who are trying to get on with their lives, but are being dragged into a criminal based voilent circle by guy with alchoal problems and see pizza delivery men as a legitamte target!?

um check again? the majority of ira deaths during the 80 and early 90s were at the hands of ira, they just didnt broadcast the intel gathering as they were trying to get the reputation as the pyschopath killers. sucha s the siege that was broken by the mear mention that sas had turned up.
the sas role was mainly intel gethering for norther ireland intell. dep. and their secound role was commiting to action whilst creating the big ego to scar the **** into people.
such as using a ball hammer to put the ira snipers out of action for the rest of their lives.

no informants will be very usefull , undercover cops wont be it'll be a operation of stalking the main players, bugging and bankrupting/robbing them of their funds forcing them into situations where the police or security can act i.e a robbery. its the sop they cant act without a clear and pressent threat.

I wouldn't say the SAS had little success but rather far from it. The public only really ever heard of the SAS's superiority when something went down that showed a force of real power such as the Loughgall Ambush. I know a handful of events involving the SAS which is not known to the ordinary public and their methods used in some missions would shock some people on here.

One of the big problems over the past 20 odd years was IRA were in situations were they could have been eliminated but higher athority meant British Army had to walk away. I remember one time 17 IRA men were been watched by a large number of army soldiers while the IRA prepared a mission and again higher athority told the army to back off and let them be. So many IRA soldiers should have been killed/arrested but nothing was done.

I just hope the same doesn't happen this time around.

Man I wouldn't screw with SAS but really surely theyve got more important things to do, like putting there feet up and having a beer, it's kinda late to be lying around dank dark countryside don't you think?

that was the whole point of the sas bigging up the killing part of their mission, to put the fear of god into people.
people dont do something when theirs a high chance of dieing, theirfor create this cold hearted super trained killer that will kill you with out mercy, ur gonna give up before they come and get you.
Plus they were well known for trafficing people for"unusual2 interigation. which was more scary than most thing the police could do.

Don't say that mate it brings up too many nasty images of sepctic tanks doing 'gay porn' with there prisoners in Iraq

more like water boarding, stress and strain interogation, and the 1 pound ball hammer, also they apperently coppied the ira interogation techniques on other units( non-ira) to build up resistance between groups.
