Attention emo's

Just saying people have different ideas of what 'normal' is. =/

I don't associate not being normal with bad but other people sometimes do. That's all. People can dress how they want in my eyes but that isn't acceptable to other people. Say i wore my jeans backwards to college, i would get laughed at for not fitting in as it isn't considered normal but i'd be doing it because i wanted to. Bad example i think. :o

Wasn't suggesting you were but i myself used to be intimidated based purely on what i had heard about goths and the way they looked. :)

but they dont....normal is normal...its not a controversial issue...

People are allowed to do what they want, but equally, people are allowed to think whatever they want about those people..

I have a serious problem with people who are against the whole judgement thing...If an emo has a god given right to dress like he does, why dont I have a right to think what I wish about him?

Reeks of self righteous rubbish to me..

Not talking you specifically here btw.

Hmm. Okay, trying to think of a good example. You see a person wearing Vans, Billabong t-shirt and baggy jeans, how would you label that person? Now say you saw a person with spiked up hair, football shirt and a pair of jeans with Nike trainers, how would you label that person? You see a person with white linen trousers and a tight red t-shirt and sunglasses that cover most of their face, how would you label that person?

My point is, which one is normal, if any? I could quite happily label each one a skater, a sports loving type person and a metrosexual but i couldn't just label someone as 'normal'.

Maybe it's just me being very open minded as to what the definition is. :o

Yes you can of course think what you want but the people i listed above, i don't know them, i just know what they are wearing. The 'skater' could have no idea how to skateboard and just liked the design of the clothes for instance.

/shrugs.

If you dress like an emo, talk like an emo, smell like an emo then youre an emo..even if you dont listen to the music...Its an image...

If you dress in skate gear, you are a skater style person..

but your example, id label all three of those people as normal. None of them are sufficiently abnormal to be labelled otherwise.

See I wouldn't say your an emo if you know nothing of the music history. More of a wanabe or someone who just likes the style.

75% of emos and goths are wannabes who just like the style. Like it or not, those people fit the mould.

Ask a chav if he or she reckons they are a chav. See what they say. I do see where you are coming from, don't get me wrong. There is a goth shop in Brighton, blasts heavy metal, a small door that leads into a black room filled with black clothing and chains. When i was a lot younger, i was too scared to go in there just to see what was in there. It diddn't help that there was a heavily pierced guy sitting outside dressed all in black leaning against the door smoking. I don't shop there but some of my friends do and when you get talking to the guys who own the shop, they really are great.

Ragfreak? ;)

That guy is called keith, he has left now. thats a dodgy shop.

Ah ha, so who would you not label as normal? :)

Emos, Goths, Punks, Metallers, Rap types etc...all the extremes. Of course, these labels are all highschool labels..Most people grow out of those groups..

Just a rough guess...

Ah ha, interesting. Each to their own, sorry for probing so much about what you define as 'normal' but it's just a fascinating topic for discussion. I'm sure other people will have input into that also.

So for you, jeans and a t-shirt with trainers is normal? Just no extremes like the ones you have mentioned above?

I just find it intresting that they go around acting as nonconformists but they are blatantly conforming to this latest stupid teenage social trend, they are far from being themselfs, I suppose it's just part of growing up, some teenagers have issues discoverying who they are and just latch on to the latest trend to form a kind of stability in thier life.

(only my opinion mind)

sometimes when you see them walking alone they look so uncomfortable...

maybe because they are no good socially or because they arent comfortable with their look..

maybe they are fitting in...

Youre still not seeing the point...'Normal' is not subjective...Its an absolute..If the majority of the population wore emo style clothes, then emo would be normal..

Jeans, tshirt and trainers fit into normal clothes, yes..

I agree to an extent. I personally believe it depends on your location, social circles and generally beliefs. :)

Well yeah, theres a small difference between what the average londoner wears and the average mancunian...but thats a tiny difference..

This is an internet forum that covers the whole of the UK so we can only talk about whats normal on a national level...

It has nothing to do with YOUR beliefs...Why cant you understand this dude?

If 90% of the population do one thing and 10% do varying other things, they are abnormal...

hmmmmmmmmmm

Panic at the disco
my chemical romance
fallout boy

= NU EMO pop punk.

Everyone seems to get called emo now pretty much. Even if you like dragonforce.
