Just got home with a new runabout for the wife, Pug 306 XND.

It's amazing what a hideous bodykit and a dented door can do for the price of a car :D

The rear bumper is some abortion the previous owner has added to the standard unit. So i can cut it off and sand it back to it's original shape! Phear the quad exhaust!

The best part was when i dug through the pile of paperwork i got with the car ...

Yup, replaceed engine only 85-90k ago. Came with a tidy set of alloys, a mp3 headunit (with usb input) and an ipod(ish) transmitter too. And a parcel shelf full of speakers.

Long tax, long mot.

£165 including house fees. Happy bunny!

Seems like a real bargain, though am I correct in thinking the XND has the non-turbo diesel engine?

Was that from Saltash auction?

Yup, Saltash.

Don't think it's got a turbo, but it just left the wifes astra (TD) for dead :D

edit - result! insurance quote just came back cheaper than the astra too!

Whilst it's hardly a rip off I don't think its really that much of a bargain - the fact you've said it had a recon engine 'only' 90k ago would suggest its what, 150-200k miles total? It's also an absolute bottom of the range XND model with windup windows and no turbo - they are very slow.

Even without bodykit I don't see a car like that making any more than 200 quid down Saltash auctions even on a good day - it's about right for what it is, rather than a bargain.

It would fetch a lot more than that on the open market though. A 17 year old who has just passed his test is going to lap that up.

Peugeot 306 (cool) - Check
MP3 HU - Check
Alloys - Check
Quad tailpipes - Check
Cheap insurance - Check (diesels are well fast innit)

I reckon you could make £750 easily with a long MOT + tax and a new door.

In the reliabilty stakes though, win :)

with windup windows

OMG!!! How could anyone live with those!!

What were the manufacturers thinking when they started to add them

Theres nothing wrong with having to use a bit of muscle every now and then ;)

Oh go away, it was in reference to the value of the car/what you get for the money.

£165 for a year's motoring is cheap.

You need to revise your bangereconomics my friend ;)

Oh dear.. he could sell the headunit and alloys which would double the return on what he paid. How can this not be a bargain? Obviously it has tax and MOT, doesn't really get any cheaper than this!

I'm quite happy with my non-turbo diesel 306, well, performance indeed does lack but what is lost there is gained in MPG :) I achieve 50MPG regularly which is a combination of all manner of roads. Infact, on the 3 week easter break I managed around the same figure and it was practically all country roads with the occasional runs here and there on dual carriageways and such.

All depends what you want from a car really, personally high MPG was more important than performance :)

BeatMaster :D

The turbo derv doesnt really use much more fuel though and is a lot quicker!

I didn't say it was expensive - I said it was par for the course of the sort of cars you get for this cash at your local auction, thats all.

And its not £165 for a years motoring until it completes its year :p

what could possibly go wrong its a peugeot.................. :D :p

Fox, I don't know if you've had a 306 D, but solong as you know how to drive, the non-turbos really can shift supprisingly well for their weak engines. Only problem is when you meet a hill it drops power rapidly :p

I had a series 1 306 XLd, non turbo and a very nice car to drive, windup windows, electric sunroof (random combo).

Fun cars to drive, and for sub £200 he's got a bargin!...can I have it for £250? :p

Hell no, i've just kicked off the horrible back splitter and took the film of the rear windows, took off the tacky black seat covers (to find the seats under were in great condition) and took most of the dent out of the door.

It's worth at least £550 now :p

@Fox, we have differing definitions of "fast", this is plenty fast enough for her, it's already loads quicker than the astra we're ditching. ("ditch"ing, see what i did there? ;))

Darn...in it's original state I'd have gotton it. :p

I often find that when someone has put seat covers on the actual seats are lovely underneath...which is nice as I hate seat covers!

I'm glad you've removed the tat off the car, everytime I see a 306 go past that's got stick on tat I irritate my missus by saying 'poor car' :D

Is it not going to look a bit funny with the big front bumper, quad exhausts, and now a standard rear bumper? :o
