The turbo derv doesnt really use much more fuel though and is a lot quicker!

You'll find that is actually not true. I can speak from experience as I've owned a DTurbo before my current car and that didn't get as high MPG. It was a lot quicker I'll give you that but short journeys really drank the fuel compared to the non-turbo :)

Next summer I'll be looking to replace my car with a VW Golf GT TDi 130/150 for about £6000-7000 :) No point getting it any sooner as I'm on placement from the 2nd July doing a 9 mile run to and from work :o

Is it not going to look a bit funny with the big front bumper, quad exhausts, and now a standard rear bumper? :o

Nah, front bumper is coming off as soon as i can find a mk2 306 bumper in a scrappy.

Rear actually looks better with the splitter piece off (couldn't look worse!)

My experience of the 1.9XUTD engine is that it uses tons of fuel when on the boil, i never got much more than 30mpg from my old xantia TD. If 50mpg really is available day to day from the non turbo then its miles better, to get 50 on the turbo you had to drive it like a complete and utter granny (which was impossible as these things are so phenomenally slow).

I guess for people that really dont have any interest in cars whatsoever and will do 90% city driving only, then the non turbo makes a lot more sense than the turbo :) Pretty good birds car.

Is this the wrong time to admit i like the sound of the quad exhaust ...

Yes, yes it is.

My mate had a 306 DTurbo and put a bean can on it, about all it did was make the car drink more fuel, didn't make a toss of difference on performance or noise...but he's a muppet. :p

.

But you drive cars as if you've just stolen them. I never got my Xantia TD below 33mpg around town and often saw 50mpg on a run.

And given the runs I did in the Xantia led to my 3 points I wasn't doing 56!

Whilst it's hardly a rip off I don't think its really that much of a bargain - the fact you've said it had a recon engine 'only' 90k ago would suggest its what, 150-200k miles total?

128k :p

Lets just say the transition from a daily drive of a 170bhp V6 which i had at the time (which i was already finding slow as i'd had it a good while) to a ~4bhp diesel didnt go down too well with my right foot! I got SO peeved with that car.

Ever since then i swore i'd never buy a car based on fuel economy, it just so isnt worth it for the sake of my sanity :p

It's a start (and surprisingly theraputic to take the boot to the car without worrying about the damage :))

What alloys has it got on it?

These. And painted on tyres, can't tell if it's been lowered due to silly thin rubber.

I get cracking mpg out of my 306 Dturbo - genuinely very very good indeed on diesel.

You'd probably get good money for the stick on stuff if you sold on ebay.

This is definetly a bargain, did you get to inspect it at all or was it blind luck.

Your right about the unpopular thing, if traders dont want it and the punters dont either then whose left to bid against you if you decide it does the job

Gave it a quick look when the cars were laid out, but wasn't going to bid due to the door, when the biddig started at 25 quid i changed my mind :D

Daft question, anybody know what size steelies should be on this thing? i've looked for 306 bits on ebay and they sell everything from 13" to 17" rubber. Want to be sure i'm getting the right size so the speedo isn't out.

Was 185/65/14 on my Xsara, should be the same, 6J wheels off the top of my head. 195/55/15 (can't quite tell from that picture of the wheel tyre is that's what is on currently) is the same radius too, both with PCD 108 and offset ET15-20.
