Audi a3 or BMW 1 series?!

Having since driven an Audi A3, I have to say the drive is no way near as good. It was a 2.0TDI, but it just didn't feel like it had the same kick mine did in lower gears and mid range torque. The handling didn't feel quite as involved either, didn't have too much time to fling it round corners, but on the few times I did, I didn't feel as confident it would handle higher speeds and just going round B-Roads, it didn't feel "fun"

Sat in cruising speed, again, didn't feel as smooth and quiet as mine.

The only thing I preferred was the interior. The 1 series interior is nicer to look at imo, but the A3 interior was better built.

That BMW linked is perfect, I don't have all the money yet, waiting for a deal to come in!

It is not perfect at all, it is a terrible example. For a start it is mis-advertised, it is not a 116i M Sport at all, it's a 'Sport'. Whilst in the 3 and 5 Series M Sport is just Sport renamed, this is not the case in the 1 Series - it's a seperate and poorer trim level. That steering wheel looks very shabby and the 116i is a clear case of buying a badge not a car.

Really terrible, avoid.

I'd go for this

Yes it's a diesel, but tbh, at this price point anything below the 120d isn't worth having anyway as they're all underpowered. The only petrol in the one series worth having in hatchback form is the 130i imo

120d will give you fairly decent economy, even if you don't do moon miles (I do 6-7k a year mostly shorter trips but average around 39mpg), give you enough speed and comfort to keep you happy, and it is fun to drive which for me is the biggest plus point

Only trouble is the noise of a diesel, but that's like any diesel

I'm the opposite which is one reason I went for the Audi. I've found the BMW's I've driven to be uninspiring and a lot more drab than I had been expecting during a drive. I think from the outside with a side on view it looks very similar to the mk5 Astra which doesn't do much for me even as a Vxl fan (flameproof suit at the ready) It's all down to personal preference at the end of the day. :)

Diesel or Petrol i'm not bothered about really.

I do play football at the weekends, is leather easy to clean, i hear cloth would be a bad shout due to this!

What insurance company is that mind me asking?

Admiral iirc, ran the quote 2 nights ago just to see how much of an effect my NCB has.

I've got a good post code though.

I currently insure my Bravo with mods declared (remap, induction and exhaust) for under £450 with Swiftcover at 21.

Wow that's really good. I average around £1,000 to insure myself on clips etc amongst others. I'll try admiral later.

Going on reviews people say the BMW is more fun compared to the Audi.

That was via confused.com as well.

I tend to find anything with 4 seats is fine for me to insure. A 350Z or 3.0 Z4 is stupid (£2.5k+) but big engine 4 door/seat cars are no real problems.

Having seen the one 1 series that comes up for me in a 60 mile AT search I think my money would be going on an A3 in this situation and at this budget.

What are the running costs of these older cars compared to say an equivalent value Focus though? Worth bearing in mind IMO.

I'm really leaning towards the 1 series now compared to the A3.

White or black, i do like black!

Not worth getting the 1.6 is it, so 1.8 Sport perhaps?
