Audi BMW rivalry

Audi are selling more than BMW at the moment. I wish they would make a RWD version of their RS cars. Would own BMW.

Salesmen really do know **** all about their cars too, which really annoys me.

Umm, correct me if i'm wrong Steve, but Active Yaw Control (as found on Mitsi EVOs) alters the blade on the rear wing automatically

lol, you couldnt be anymore wrong :p

Active Yaw Control is an automobile feature introduced in the Japanese Market Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV and has been included in certain models of every generation up to and including the current Evolution IX. AYC is based on a computer controlled rear differential which can actively split torque based on input from various accelerometers in the vehicle. It accomplishes this via two hydraulic clutches which can limit torque on individual axles. This system should not be confused with stability control systems which utilize the braking system of a vehicle by individually braking certain wheels to rotate and slow the car. AYC is a performance-oriented system which aims to increase cornering speeds. Starting with the Lancer Evolution VIII, AYC became the SAYC system which utilized a planetary gearset which could support an even greater torque bias than the previous system.

Competition oriented models of the Lancer Evolution do not include the AYC/SAYC system, as it is less durable and heavier than a standard mechanical LSD. Also, in the hands of a professional race driver, the benefits of SAYC are negligible.

USDM models of the Lancer Evolution have never included SAYC, due to a combination of cost, maintenance, and emissions issues. This has long been a point of heated debate around whether or not the USDM model of the Lancer Evolution is a true "LanEvo". This argument seems largely moot as the Japanese market has long offered different models of the Lancer Evolution, both with and without the AYC/SAYC system.

Well I don't know about being wrong.....

According to Head to Head and Mitsi, the rear wing plane (as part of the AYC device) alters its degree depending on the corner being taken.

It works in relation to the diff, so tbh, I wasnt wrong, just not 100% accurate!

Tee hee

Him "Come to buy an RS4"
Me "Great car but no, more than happy with the M3"
Him "But the RS4 is much better"
Me "Dude your comparing a 5 year old car against a brand new one, wait till the new M3 is out and we will talk again"
Him "But thats 18 months away"
Me "And how long did it take audi to make and M3 "beater"?"
Him (ignores me last bit) "I would see your m3 on the track anyday"
Me "M3 is more fun being RWD for sideways action, lots of reviews still choose the m3 over the rs4 for that reason alone"
Him "Quatro is great"

To be fair, the salesman had a point. I can understand why you're pleased with your car, it's a cracker, but I don't understand the need to defend 'the M3' in general?

Don't get me wrong, this isn't being green-eyed or whatever, as I'd sell my left arm for an M3, (in a decent colour ;)) but I'd sell my right one for an RS4.

Incidentally, do you have have conversations about the weather? or cheese? Or anything that isn't about 'the M3'? Dude, seriously, talk to Sytner and get them to give you a job, your obsession is wasted on us... ;)

the salesman should have took the hint and shut up about the RS4. trying to build rapport is one thing, but going ott is another.

That applies to salesmen in most fields. You wouldn't expect your average PC World guy to give you any useful advice, so why expect more from a car salesman.

Becuase your average PC world guy is being payd £5.10 an hour to sell £300 products.

Your average BMW salesman is earning £30-£60k a year, selling £30,000 products.

I would expect anyone selling a product, to know what they are talking about, be it PC's, cars, phones, etc. Obviously its not always the case, but I still expect it.

And still has a similar i.q. to a PC World bod.

Not long after buying my e38, I took it to a local dealer.

Parking outside, I was noticed and pounced on by a salesman as I walked through the door - always a bad move to my eye - "Would you like to book a test drive of the new 7 series sir?" came the prompt from the salesman, me, I looked at the price of the car (approx £65k) and simply said "and what makes you think somebody in an old e38 thats worth £5k can suddenly afford to replace it with a new model thats £60k more then?"

I then muttered something unrepeatable here at him and then trudged downstairs to order the part that I wanted.

The look on his face was a picture! :o :p :D :D :D

I'd had a bad day......

Yea, I bet it was, you basically turned up in your old 7 Series, he was kind enough to ask if you wanted to test drive the new model as you walked through the door, and you gave him a sarcastic reply and then swore at him.

Brilliant, way to go re-inforcing my stereotype of old 94-98 E38 drivers..
