Audi owners in here!

Realise I'll probably get slated for not going with a Golf GTi, but put a deposit down for an S1 yesterday. Having an extended test drive completely sold it for me. It'll be replacing my A1 1.4 (122PS).

Test drove the Golf GTi twice and it just didn't have the wow factor that the S1 has. Each to their own I guess!

If you are happy why not, I would probably have done the same. Of course that's coming form the person who bought an RSQ3

I put a couple of pictures earlier in this thread, had it for about 6 months now. I really like it. I had an S4 before and I was really worried about changing it because I liked that so much. Some of the comments on here didn't help either! The only two faults are the turning circle is awful and the flappy paddle gearbox feels slow pulling away from a standstill in first (unless I use the launch control). Once it hits second then it is away. If I'm honest I only bought it for the word "Quattro" plastered across the front :o
It goes really very well, handles so much better than you would think but I'm getting worse fuel economy then the S4. I always said I would only ever have a manual gearbox but I'm used to the automatic now and I am happy with it. The high driving position takes a little getting used to but is good for the country roads on which I mainly drive.

Here it is in the Audi garage a couple of days before I picked it up.

I like the look of the RSQ3 but I simply cannot understand why it's called the RSQ3. It has only 306bhp - it looks like what the SQ3 should have been, it's nothing like powerful or nutcase enough to be a true RS series car. It's not really any different to something like a BMW X3 XDrive35i?

A great car with the wrong badge.

I don't really care about the badge. Sure it isn't as quick as the RS3 MTM a friend of mine drives but it is quicker than you would think and meets my needs perfectly.

Well I have been looking at the replacement for the lexus and I have the v8 itch so the S4 Quattro Tiptronic has caught my eye. I will be looking at up to 8k and there seems to be quite a few good B5s for that money with less than 80k. Not actually bothered if it's a saloon or estate. So has anyone any experience of them and things to look out for? One thing I would like to know is, how is the standard audio? Coming from a lexus with mark levinson audio I woi like it to be good and also what sort of gains would I see from minor mods like induction, exhaust and remap?

Help would be appreciated:)

Sounds like you mean the B6 if you are looking at the 4.2 V8. I'd imagine is has a Bose system. They sound OK good enough and to be fair I haven't heard better so I cannot compare to a B&O system.

Had my engine remap at R Tech on Thursday, the DSG map being done a couple of weeks earlier, which I posted about previously.

The car (S3) made 370bhp and 390lb/ft. Majorly impressed.

My previous map was a stage 2+ Revo which despite having their DSG map was torque limited at 310lb/ft.

I have had a few extra mods fitted since the Revo map though, eurojet intercooler, RS4 fuel pressure valve and water meth.

Highly recommed RTech, custom maps are definitely a step ahead of the 'off the shelf' ones!

New turbo time ;) wish I went with DSG as mines a manual I just need a map to take it to 360HP. I don't think the clutch will take it and I didn't really want to go down the SMF route.

New turbo has crossed my mind quite a few times but its at this point it starts to get pretty expensive.

IIRC its about £6k for the nortech kit, then rods, clutch packs, etc.

Would like a drive in a big turbo S3 just to see how it affects the drivability though, in terms of the loss of low down power.

Finally got my DaveB big brakes on too, they look fantastic - still bedding them in at present so haven't really had chance to test them properly.

Was well chuffed as I didn't have to use spacers, I had some 10mm ones just in case but so glad I didn't have to use them :D

Which pads did you go for in the end? Kind of regretting my Pagid blue's as they create a serious amount of dust and have naff all bite in the cold weather!

Does anyone else with a B7 have a problem with windscreen stone chips?

Seem to get chips all the time in this compared to my old Leon, I assume it has something to do with the angle of the screen as the Leon used to get hit but no damage.

Had it replaced a couple of months ago due to getting a good pelting one day leaving me with an unrepairable chip.

Skip forward to my journey to work this morning, took a hit which left me with a chip the size of about 5p, which within 5 seconds turned in to a foot long crack!

Got around to taking a few artsyfartsy photos of my S1, so here they are:
